Trunk Lip Removal

I will be replacing the factory trunk lip spoiler with a Carbon Fiber spoiler. Any suggestions for prying off the factory spoiler?

Heat gun and dental floss, I just did mine a few weeks ago. Be careful putting on the new spoiler, you only get one shot at making it straight or you have to start all over again removing the new one.

Thanks good to know that there are no hidden fasteners under the spoiler.

I applied the oem Benz spoiler to my dads 2016 e350... Same process

Clean paint with Palmolive soapy water then dry and then clean with rubbing alcohol. I used masking tape to mark out exactly where the spoiler would go

Hear gun to the spoiler and also to the surface to get surface nice and warm and then had a helper apply symmetric force down for several minutes ... Though you can do this alone

Good luck and make sure you have the premium 3M adhesive tape ... They make a specific version for spoilers on cars

Wait, so even the OEM spoiler is just stuck on? No bolts?

Don't see any point in replacing it w/ a CF wrapped OEM piece when I can upgrade to something w/ some function.

I don't think you're going to get a whole lot more function out of any spoiler out there. Unless you're putting like a Black Series C63 spoiler (which would look terrible IMO)

Not going the C63 Black route. You'd be surprised what a slight lip like the DTM style can do. I have something similar on my '96 Impala SS & it was wind tunnel tested to increase downforce over the OEM spoiler starting about 60mph.

The spoiler is mainly for looks, in driving you're not going to notice any difference whatsoever. The OEM spoiler is a ***** to remove, I had to use fishing line as dental floss kept breaking. That and heat gun, and goo gone. Wear gloves or else you'll tear up your hands in the process. I wish I had just paid a body shop $100 to do it instead.

I don't disagree that the DTM style could potentially increase down force. But the extended OEM spoilers that are .5" longer than factory are not going to give any sort of noticeable difference over the factory spoiler. I have put a DTM spoiler on my last E that did not even have the factory spoiler on the trunk. Not a single noticeable difference. Would a wind tunnel possibly tell a different story.. meh.. maybe.

I was just saying that any spoiler that you replace the OEM with will be purely aesthetics (carbon fiber), unless you go with the gaudy Black Series style. If it's on a real Black Series.. I dig it. A luxury E class.. nah.
