I had my Command Software updated by the dealer last month and finally ordered activation module from Vlad today. I'll let you know the results as soon as the module arrives! Can't wait!

The module arrived today via DHL. I followed the instructions on Vlad's eBay listing and it worked just as described to activate Apple CarPlay. My car is 2016 E250 US Spec W212. It just needed the Command Update from the dealer and then Vlad's module to activate CarPlay. I did NOT change the USB ports etc that someone had rumored about (i.e. only the Command Update from dealer and Vlad's module was needed). CarPlay works on USB #2 in the center console (not in USB #1). Could not be happier!!! Thank you Vlad!!

Can Apple CarPlay be enabled via SDS or is Vlad's module the only known way at this time? Assuming the software is up to date, which i am lucky my E63 is a February 2016 build date.

Wonder why you couldn't enable it via SDS. Does anyone have one and attempted it? I don’t mind spending the $100 on Vlad’s module, it’s just that I could get access to a dealer computer/programmer if it would work. But don’t want to call in favors if we know for a fact it’s a not possible.

I'm convinced its definetly possible via SDS, it has to be with the list of cars with the same command system that are on the list. But convincing the dealer to ignore the licensing agreement (or whatever it is that's stopping them from officially releasing the smartphone package for our 212 chassis) is another story.

I can also confirm, Vlad’s module works in my 2016 with just the most recent firmware upgrade, on the original oem installed USB.
I can't speak on charging speed (which I suspect is the difference between the original USB and the smartphone integration package, other than the logo) but I have one sitting at the dealership waiting for me, and if the charging speed is blatantly slow on the original equipment I will try the new USB block and report back.

I've been in touch with them directly, and they say it will work with my 2012 E63 Wagon (had to take a pico of, and send them my Home Screen for resolution check) ...
About to order, unless someone here has had a negative experience ... Positive experience would be good to hear about too!

Another Vlad customer
I have a 2016 with build date of 07/15.
Used Vlad's module and it worked well for me, no upgrade needed.
Also using his "ECO removal" functionality and it also works well. Nice! Even though the ECO light remains on.
To answer my own question above in the prior post - we can go into Dealer mode (hang up + 7 + 9 for about 5 seconds), but even in that menu there is no version readout. Weird.
Used Vlad's module and it worked well for me, no upgrade needed.

I have CarPlay working in my 2014 e63. I bought the Unichip box. Did the install myself and broke a few things. Read the videos on YouTube, not the ones from Unichip. There are several items you need to cover during the install that are not in the Unichip video. Overall the unit works. I occasionally get a disconnect but just replug in my phone and am up an running. I put the box under the glove box and ran the cables through a gap in between. Overall I am satisfied with it. Cheap way to get CarPlay working in a car that never had it.
