Higher charge to mount/dismount tire?
This pertains to a recent experience I had at Discount Tire (or America's Tire in Cali):
I called for quotes at the four Discount Tire stores nearest me. With each one, I told the person I need my new 285/35-18 tires (bought from TireRack but I didn't tell them that) mounted and balanced on the rear of my MB E-Class. Each one gave me the quote of $5 to mount, $5 to dismount, and $16 to spin balance/tire. I was also informed the price is set by the corporate and the same at each store.
So I went to one of the four I called, and I got charged $10 to mount, $10 to discmount, and $18 to spin balance/tire. When I brought it up, I was told that it was not easy to mount such a low profile tires and the rims were wide and "not everyone drives a E63 AMG."
I was not pleased to hear that because I feel I probably wouldn't be overcharged if I bring in just the wheels in the trunk of another car. My question is: Am I supposed to feel that way, or am I just being a pain in the A$$?
By the way, 3 stores told me the TPMS doesn't necessarily need to be rebuilt, while the one I went to told me it needs to. Does it?...I'm now obviously suspicious of anything they recommend.

I generally call beforehand and give them an exact size of my tire and wheel (w/o telling them my car), and ask the price for mounting and balancing. If they know the tire size and wheel size, there's no excuse for raising the price after they see your car except to screw you.
18" tires are like the "standard" these days. NHTSA requires TPMS for all new cars now. There's literally no reason to charge more for your car. Sorry they tried to take advantage of you.
If I understand the situation, you paid about $20 more than one of the shops quoted you.
But you have no complaints about the work.
Just because one shop quoted a lower price doesn't mean the outcome would have been the same,
Price isn't everything.

That being said, Discount usually honors Tirerack prices for me but charges a bit more for the rest of the stuff (usually amounts to something insignificant). Also I always roadforce balance my tires so these prices you are quoting sound low
BTW, does Discount Tire have Road Force balancing available?
No worry.
