Cooling Upgrades - 2012 vs 2013
Currently own an E55 but I'm trying to decide between a 2012 and 2013 E63 and the only real differences seem to be the drastic price difference and the split cooling on the 2013.
Coming from an E55 and cooling issues on these cars, my question is this:
- Is the 2012 with the upgraded and split cooling (Wesitec seems to be cheapest at $1,999) better than a stock 2013 system or roughly the same?
- Would a 2013 with a better intercooler be any better than a 2012 with the Wesitec kit?
AMS seems to have a nice kit but its $3,259 with the divorced cooling. HOLY smokes. Even the Wesitec kit is extremely expensive in my opinion but...
Take the poll, I'd really like to hear you guys out.
PS - sorry for the typos in the poll, cant figure out how to edit.

I wouldn't worry about it.
I have a 2012 with stock cooling and have taken my car to quite a few track days and autox events. 2012 stock cooling is 100% fine.
If you're doing back to back 1/2 mile runs I could see it being an issue, but you aren't doing that.....
Get a 2012 and use the money you saved for a tune and you'll thank me later

the AMS HE is actually an additional HE not a replacement

Again for what 99% of most people use these cars for the stock 2012 cooling system is fine.
Anything you do after that will lower your IAT's but you won't see much if any improvement unless you're that 1%'r

You're not going to get people who have knowledge of what you're looking for.

Im not a 1% but these cars do pull timing as the IAT increases. My E55 feels like a different car with 50* vs 75* vs 100* IATs. And i mean worlds different. Starts feeling heavy and sluggish with IAT's at 95 or higher, so i make sure to keep them down as much as possible when i can.
even on my 2014 (2014+ has additional exchanger) tuned, i notice a decent difference between 60f day and 90f day, so the better the cooling you can get, the less timing your gonna pull
somewhere on here i think dbasson split the system himself and had logs of the difference before and after and it definitely made a difference

if you plan on getting a tune you are definitely going to be pulling timing with the stock 2012 system.... not sure if its going to be as bad as an E55 with a bad IC pump feeling (i had that happen on my e55) but you would want to divorce your IC cooling anyways

So i think a 2012 with the Weistec kit (bigger IC and split cooling) should be good to go.
Now gotta go find a 2012 around NY without a million miles that doesn't cost a fortune.

I discussed the same exact thing with my tuner and independent shop. All said the same thing and I even phrased it comparing my old E55 with a bad IC pump to the E63 pulling timing when it was hot.
In short
It would take quite a bit of abuse before any drastic power drop off like the E55.
My car has been tuned with full bolt-on's (tune,dp,plugs, filters) for roughly 5k miles. I daily drive it and it has seen 100+ degree temps and has yet to feel sluggish. I've done back to back 130+ pulls with a couple of friends and it never hesitated. I cannot say the same for my old stage 3 E55. After about 3 pulls I could tell the temps were getting to that quickly. Even with a tank in the back.
I'm going to wait until my warranty is up completely and get myself the AMS cooling kit (mainly so I can retain my spare tire unlike weistec's kit). I will do the divorcing of the cooling system then with what parts are included.
