Installing charger
I want to install one of the CTEK chargers in my E63. From what Im reading its the trunk battery that should be on a trickle charger? Or in hood?
I want to install a lead directly on the battery and want to pull the lead to the exterior of the car (not though the trunk lid) Basically a clean run, without any doors, hood, trunk open. Has anyone done this? Planning on getting this, which I take it is the same as mercedes OEM. http://stevejenkins.com/blog/wp-cont...cable_raw1.jpg |

Does it need to be plugged into trunk battery or hood?

As above, hood (bonnet here :)) battery, and actually on the supplied posts if possible and not the battery itself.
As an aside, does it not have the capability to charge an AGM (Gel) battery, or does the "Cold" option cater for that? It's just that I have an MXS 5.0 which has the AGM option, (pic below) though not sure if this is UK specific? https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...27850638de.jpg |

If it is in the hood, perhaps I can hard wire the connection and fish the wire out?
Which points do I connect to? Attachment 365005 |
+ and - of the battery and you can hide the pig tail in the front cowl by the wipers.

Just curious, is this because you drive your car infrequently or is there a benefit to the battery? I have never used a charger before on a car that I would drive at least monthly, but did keep my motorcycle on one through the East coast winters.

Keeping a battery on full charge with trickle charging along with desulfating/conditioning the battery are always beneficial to the battery. Most car nowadays are electric hogs. E63's battery is never fully charged even if you drive it daily. If there is an easy connection, might as well hook it up daily.

I have one of these exact chargers connected to my motorcycle battery. It treats the battery very nice.
Still running the original OEM battery since day 1. For reference, I bought the bike in April of 2008. That is a LONNNG time for a motorcycle battery. |
