Red Shift Light w212 e63?
Hello all,
I've been looking at e63 pull videos and I noticed when they are driving in manual mode the gauge cluster lights up red to let them know it's time to shift. Mine doesn't do that, is there something I need to turn on? Or update?

You just have to rev it out. Honestly, at least for me, the car revs so quick that you barely get a chance to get the shift light in 1st and 2nd. Between focusing on the road and everything else involved going WOT in this car...
The light is designed to get your attention without directly looking at it. So don't get fixated on waiting for your dash to turn red and quit paying attention to the road.

Tried it out this morning and just saw it. I Never noticed it before because most of it is directly behind the top of my steering wheel. I'll need to try it out if you more times, because it still wasn't enough warning for me before I hit the limiter in 1st gear.

^Yeah, like I said if you're seeing the red light in first gear you'll probably end up bouncing off the limiter because it revs so quick. Even second gear you'll be cutting it close at WOT.

It's crazy to me that this isn't common knowledge, but then again I also have found out that driving in manual mode isn't as popular as I thought either. I'm always in M so see this whenever I get on it for a bit.

Is it only in 1st? I could not try it in 2nd or 3rd yet.

The dash will light up red in every gear. I'm just saying if it lights up red while you're in first you're probably going to over-rev and bounce off the limiter because that's how fast first gear is.
Similar to second, rpms are climbing quick so you really have to pay attention. But if you hit those higher speeds and are redline shifting in 3rd, 4th, so on then you'll definitely see the red cluster.

The way this transmission shifts with the paddles, if you wait for that light you're LATE! Horrible response in manual mode when wot!

Before y'all start overrevving your cars... In first you should still predict the shift and not wait for the shift light. 2nd and up you should be good unless you're asleep at the wheel. But 1st gear is so quick and the delay from telling the car to shift to the car actually shifting is just long enough you'll overrev

I've thought it strange tha MB brags about the shift speed of their MCT then makes the delay so long between the depression of the paddle and the actual shift. These AMG trannys may support a butt load of tq but they've always been the worst experience in driving an AMG!

i find in s+ auto it shifts very quick, then again I don't have much experience with DCT/PDK.

That's what I'm talking about. Inside the trans it takes 100ms, from the paddle to the trans takes about 3 days...

The 3 days part... Why doesn't everyone have such a problem with it? I mean, we all know the delay is there so how come people don't just plan their shift 3 days ahead of time? That's what I have been doing forever and while the delay is annoying I live with it.

You/we live with it because we have no choice. Should I really have to "plan ahead" on a transmission that shifts in 100ms? And that's assuming the delay is the same every time (which I don't believe it is). It's not too much to expect the programming to be on par with the level of performance we're paying for.

Lol you guys are funny!
MCT is not DCT or PDK. So don't expect the same level of perfance. AMGs have been known for years to have a slower gearbox. That didn't prevent you to buy one! So enjoy it for what it is.
And by the way the red light in manual mode is on every AMG at least 63s since 08. I don't know about the 45 and 43 though.
