2011 E63 - going for a turbo build need some insights
Hi all,
I am new to the forums so I apologize if this has been beaten to death and pointing me to an existing thread would be greatly appreciated.
I am going to start on a project soon with a local shop on figuring out how to install twin turbos on the E63 W212 (2011).
They are oil less (so can be mounted any way) triple ball bearing.
There is a pocket right above the manifold so we'll try to get creative.
I've been eyeing the wisetec build but the price is stupid high (all in).
The main question I have is what is the tolerance of the stock build.
Could it handle 6lbs w/o any modifications or should I really consider the weistec engine build + ported heads.
Also I'm a bit worried about the head bolts - is this something that is a must to replace?
I think tranny will be fine because the turbo doesn't produce as much crank as the supercharger does.
Apologize for the vomit of questions and any help/insights are greatly appreciated.

I believe my guy started talking to them as we'll need the dyno.
thanks for the tip I'll reach out.
I've got Weistec's ECU software but I don't know if they can remotely program I might lose that investment.

Just throwing this out there, but if you're going to stay at low boost levels wouldn't a centrifugal supercharger be MUCH easier?

The supercharger alone is $13K (no labor), plus then everything else...
Also supercharger requires long tube headers (another $4.5K).
These turbos are good for 1K+ HP and much cheaper installed.
That leaves room for engine build and ported heads.
Speaking of which how much do people charge to remove the engine (ballpark) so it can be shipped?

I tend to agree with Chiro though that supercharger would be easier and cheaper route as i think after turbo cost , some custom fab work and getting it to work right and custom tuning you might end up being more money and definitely more down time with turbo setup so in the end i dont think you are going to save any money going turbo route but best to run the numbers with eurocharged first
what power are you looking to hit? ever think about nitrous as on the M156 it works really well and easy to get to 500-600whp with pretty simple setup.... one of the fastest M156's runs were on nitrous

I didn't say twin screw, I said centrifugal. Those kits are half (or less) the price for a complete intercooled set up. And I'm sure you can find headers for half that price as well...

As stated it's been done, as for rumors I've even heard about a few M156 TT builds going on right now (C63), until we see finished product I believe nothing though.
Would be cool to see if you pull it off!

A TT M156 would be absolutely nothing like the TT M157 AMG built. The sound and the rev alone I miss from that M156 motor, just no potential in power with out getting expensive in comparison to a tune and dp M157.

Thanks all for support. I'll keep you posted.
The built everything on the C63 TT worries me - not sure what that implies -- the overpriced weistec build or custom builds at Eurocharged shop.

If your gonna do it probably best to get the Eurocharged kit as it's already made ready for you.
Or you can always consider upgrading to a tt m157

Exactly! I'm not sure why folks are against this.
I think if we manage to pull this off and create a jig in the process it should benefit everyone. Therefore I'm asking for specific info on things I should consider about the engine and transmission or anything else.
I'm not looking for advice on what other methods I should go with but I do appreciate the perspective and thankful for it.
Like I said, my initial step is to put the TT in at very low pressure (6lbs) just so we can figure out how to fit them and build them. These turbos are good to 1K HP so once they're in I can start modifying whats needed and that is advice I'm looking for.

My E63 has 36K miles on it (2011) - why would I buy another one?
Oh, I'm not rolling in cash btw so I can just buy cars when I feel like it.

2014 E63S; AMS 100 octane ecu tune; edok tcu tune; BB intakes; dyno tuned
What's this project going to roughly cost you?

Don't know just yet. We're looking at around 9K right now with budget 10 hours of Dyno time + tune (license).
We are hoping to finish for the wannaGoFast event in NC May 21st.
First build is stock engine/Tranny (should be able to hold about 700HP).
The turbos are good I think to about 1K and intercooler about 700HP each so room to grow there.

What's your car worth private sale?

KBB puts it at 40K for private sale. Stock obviously - no mods.
It is repainted with Mercedes factory matt black.

Interesting. $50-55k will get you a nice biturbo e63 or e63S and you can tune it and it'll still carry a warranty and the parts will be recognized by your insurance company as oem
looking forward to reading about your build

Well that assumes I can find a buyer for that money.
It also assumes that I want to do something rational - buy a stock car and just drive it.
This project is all about doing something that has not been done, not economics.
If I was acting like a rational adult (which I am 99.9% of the time) I would buy a Honda Accord and boast how awesome my mileage and reliability are.
My goal is to build a 1000 HP car from this thing so all rationale is out the window already. It's just cool.
Also M156 is a 6.2L while the 2012 on are 5.5L. Yes probably better built but whatever.
Will definitely post the progress as it gets going. Should have most of the parts in, in the next couple of weeks. Getting giddy and hopefully we can make the May date with the first incremental (shooting for 600-700HP).
Big shout out to Will @ Toxic Detail and Performance (in CLT) for taking this on.
