I had 20x10.5 ET 35 on 295/30/20 rubber last summer, and it rubbed on stock suspension in S+. This will be close.
I'm never doing 20" wheels again, getting 19s for this summer.

285/30R19 = 25.78"
295/30R19 = 25.97" (+0.92%)
295/30R20 = 26.97" (+4.8%)
You need to lower the sidewall ratio every time you change wheel diameter.
295/25R20 = 25.81" (+0.29%)

One would or at least shouldn't run same sidewall profile when upsizing the wheel as then the tire diameter is a inch larger.

Well I do not understand how 295/30-20 was even fitable on W212 (if one would ask me, I would say zero chance of fitting), but that's not the purpose here. The question to poster #4 was and still is why "never 20s again" and my original post was also meant for poster #8 (the OP) as well that "harshness" could not have been the reason for "never 20s again" as explained above.
Edit: its possible and think likely that post #4 was a typo and 295/25-20 was meant instead of 295/30-20.

But back to OP's question, from what I've read, a 10.5" ET46 is pushing the limits though maybe doable for a sedan at stock height, but lowered it rubs sometimes. So doing an ET42 lowered with 305 will rub.

It is possible. Don't you think that even with a 295/25R20 on a 10.5" ET35 it would still rub, even on stock?

CLS has much more room to run wider wheels and wider tires with lower rear offsets that E, so to the OP - IMHO while front is fine, the rear will not work.
