Edited my post. But yeah I just went to Home Depot and got the piping there. It's a better fit than OEM and won't rip. If anyone wants to know the exact details PM me.

I have both of my used OEM intake scoops, the driver side is torn and passenger side perfect. If anyone wants them to make a project on their own time without tearing up their existing tubes Id be happy to sell them cheap to anyone!

I opened my hood tonight to too up the oil and saw the right side pipe looking like the below, anyone know the part numbers for them, left and right?

Im under extended warranty so dont want to swap it out for none standard, MB warranty here in the UK is a real pain anyway without excuses not to pay out.

Left Side Air Inlet Hose A2780902482
right side A2780902582

you can double check these numbers with the number on the bottom of the plastic adapter that clips into the front grill intakes.

Should be about £50 a piece from a UK dealer.

I’m based in Dubai, the dealer wants over double that. I’ve got some 3” flexi hose that I’m going to try and replace it with this weekend. If it doesn’t work I’ll be bringing some back from the U.K. in a couple of weeks.

Question for the guys who replaced the hose, what did you use to clamp the hoses into the plastic adapters? I’m thinking about jubilee clips and making some cuts in the flanges if needed for the screw adjuster? Any thoughts appreciated.

It looks like the new E550 bi turbo motor has better design air intakes and they look like they will fit but i have no idea of the part numbers

That picture is a computer rendering and from 2012. Looking at the latest car that still has the m278 engine (2018 cls550) and it has the same crappy intake tubes.

So did the mod yesterday, replaced the flexi hose with this from amazon:

Flexible Air intake Ducting Transfer Car Engine air hose/tube https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00VE1NQOQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_TgbxBb395AD54

Bought 2 of then. If you are cheap you could do it with one. I cut about 3 inches off the end of each hose (when coiled, not extended)

No need for clamps/jubilee clips as the hose is a very tight fit onto the adapters. Most difficult bit was getting the old glue and bits of fabric cleaned off the plastic. Do one at a time so you have a mirror image to reference and compare to.

Cost £15

Apolgies for the dusty engine bay, it’s difficult keeping things pristine in the desert!

Looks great and good to hear clamps not required, I wondered about an 80mm pipe but if 75mm is a snug fit then 80mm may end up needing jubilee clips, tie wraps etc

Thanks. My worry from the outset was the lack of space on the flanges to get any purchase for a clamp. The tight hose makes that not an issue, plus it looks cleaner and more OEM.

Wondering what the stealer will say when it goes in for the next service, we had a fairly frank exchange of views when my service advisor told me they weren’t covered on the extended warranty.

Im going to do the same as you, I also had the same exchange of views with my dealer, basically told him the warranty is worthless junk as they only ever say not covered.

I have a bit of oily residue around the front of the engine under the large pulley area that splashed up the side of the right side aluminium intake pipe and looks to have soiled the belt, straight away they said not covered before even looking at it.

Im getting an independent inspection done and will send the report to Mercedes AMG along with my appraisal of Mercedes service centres. I already received compensation from MB AMG last year for shoddy customer service so lets see this time LOL

I wiped a lot of it away to keep an eye on it, you can see the tide mark on the engine cover

What length are those pipes from Amazon not extended? The advert says they extend to 1m and you mentioned cutting 75mm off the unextended length, just want to be clear on the lengths before buying

Thanks

They are about 12” when compressed. And extend quite a lot. The photos below are the piece I cut off one of them both compressed and extended.

On the car, the pipes are mainly compressed, only flexing for the curve needed.

This offcut is going to stay on my desk as a fidget toy for a while I think!

Hi can i ask, di the shaped pieces on each end have an internal lip to slip the new pipes over?

I can get 75mm or 80mm diameter so was thinking of the 80mm but dont want it to be slack.

Thanks

Apologies for the delay in responding, did you sort yours out yet?

Yes there is about 3/4" of lip on each of the connector pieces.

The sides that connect to the air box did work loose after a couple of days so I took them off, cleaned it all up and used some 5 minute epoxy (Araldite) to glue the pipe to the air box connectors, didn't bother wit the intake sides as they were still snug.

Can only assume that the vibration from the engine worked them loose over a couple of days. Still looks neat and they have not come off again yet.

No I havent done mine yet was really hoping to increase the diameter to get a bit more air in there, Im popping some BMC filters in to raise the filter position in the airboxes mainly

I was thinking of 80mm rather than 75mm but its not much increase so maybe not worth it if they work loose?

I don't think it will make any noticeable gain having the extra 5mm. The 75mm/3" are a good snug fit with the glue.

I think the ideal solution would be 3" silicone intake hose custom shaped to fit, something similar to what these guys make:

Anyone here with access to M/B Parts Catalog? I am interested in this but can't find the P/N for either side.

Post #33 indicates these were not production pieces.

Looking at these and, wondering why that fabric type material is being used. I had the thought, perhaps under some conditions they allow "cooler" air to pass into the engine bay. Helping under hood temps.

My only guess is less heat transfer but it has to be negligible considering how hot it is under the hood.
When I place the E63 in the garage after a long trip the residual heat raises the garage temperature by 12 degrees.
