S212 E63 vs. F15 X5 50i / F85 X5M...
After quite a bit of searching I have found the almost perfect E63 Touring.
I am curious to read opinions from individuals who may have cross-shopped an X5M or perhaps own(ed) an X5M or 50i in conjunction with their E63. So let's have it... Thoughts, opinions or anything in-between.

Hahaha... That Gentleman is on here and makes me jealous daily. Hopefully this one works out. Going to see it on Saturday if the weather permits.

I cross shopped an X5M when my wife wanted a cayenne and they just felt...bigger. The e63 feels like a sedan and the X5M still felt like a truck. A fast truck for sure...but a truck nonetheless.
The market for super fast SUVs isn't that great either so check depreciation on all these. I was looking at 2-3 year old X5M's that were like 60% off of their original price. which means, great if you're buying used and terrible if new.
Made an AMG seem like it was depreciating slowly, which no one has said ever.

I had an X5M for 7 months, BMW bought it back. Build quality isn't as great as an AMG. I have always been a huge BMW/M fanboy but after getting into an AMG, it's completely different. I'm glad BMW bought it back because the E63 is amazing, not saying the X5M wasn't amazing - it was ridiculously fast but wasn't worth it when I was driving loaner cars more than my own.

E70 or F85? I owned an E70 X5M and the first three months of ownership the vehicle spent more time at the dealership than in my garage. Not even close to an exaggeration. It made our RRSC look like it was as reliable as a hammer.

F85. My LWB RR has only been to the dealership for routine service and thats it. But the X5M was at the dealership every month and out for 3 weeks average.

Isn't the 2nd part of the above sentence related to the car?

It isn't because he wouldn't have had the issue if the tech installed the terminals back correctly. He went there to get a Dinan exhaust installed. How is that related to the car? Same thing can happen in any modern BMW/MB/Audi

Still, will the W212 lock you up in case of such event?

same here. i owned many LR/RR products and the stereotype of them being troublesome is greatly exaggerated. i've had more issues with bmw vehicles than any other brand.

My details need to be updated, this was several years ago. It was an '06. Had it towed in for transmission failure and while it was there it fell off the lift onto its roof and was totaled. I was going to sell it or trade it in after that repair because I was tired of it being in the shop more often than not but the dealer's insurance paid me about $4k over what I would have been able to sell it for and probably $8k over what I would have got trading ii in.

ah yes. the early run of the l320 were troublesome and kinks were being worked out. i believe 2008-2009 were less troublesome. i had a 2009 RRS-SC among others and the only issues i had was a rocking driver's seat and a trunk rattle. both fixed on first visit without issue and under warranty. owned many other lr/rr and experience was the same. minor annoyances but nothing worth crying over for me but nonetheless not the point of the thread. curious if anyone came from one of these athletic pigs into the wagon and is content or even complacent or regret the transition. i am going to see the one i placed a deposit on and hope to be overwhelmed.

Found the vehicle. It may be mine as soon as tonight but still curious to read those who cross-shopped against a high output suv eg: ML63, X5M, RRS-SC etc.
