20K Miles... $4400 for MB BRAKES??? 2014 E63 AMG - Model S
2014 MB E63 AMG Model S
Just over 20K miles, not a daily driver and purchased car from another MB Dealer 11 months ago.
Never track driven. Put on 4K miles in 11 months and now my brakes are at 30% life left and Mercedes says $3100 for fronts and $1300 for rears... are you kidding me? Shouldn't they have lasted me at least 11 months and 4k miles?
(i have a factory warranty on the car still, not sure if i want to go with aftermarket rotors and brakes for all 4 wheels)
Thoughts and Opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Warranties usually don't cover wear and tear items like braking components. 30% can still last quite a while, if you spend a lot of time like me on open highway. Once they are toasted, just get a set of Girodisc or RacingBrake, at least for the front, and head to an indy to slap them on. You can do the same for the rear, too but OEM rear rotors are surprisingly cheap.

The tech aids (lane assist, etc) can use part of the braking system to assist with accident avoidance and can apply brakes/accelerate wear on the brake system without you even feeling it.
I turned off most of the electronic nannies.
Regardless of how you drive, these wagons weigh 4,700 lbs and can still stop on a dime. Brakes can and will wear....price of admission unfortunately.
That said, I've got 30k miles so far. I plan to purchase new OEM rotors when needed and have them cryo-treated. This will make the rotor last twice as long without any downside. This effectively reduces the service costs by extending the practical life of the rotors.
Other than that, just budget for the consumables (tires too!) and enjoy your ride!

If you rotors are good just swap pads DYI
I installed pads at 32k original rotors...( I have a set of new rotors)EBC Red. I think total was around 600.00 and I spend the day cleaning the wheels and gave her a good detail....

EBC Yellowstuff pads at Autoanything cost <$300 shipped for all 4 corners. Add some labor at $125 and you're in new pads for around $400. Rotors are most likely fine after 20k miles.

Yep I agree, have a indy shop do the EBC's. Dealers are a real rip off on stuff like this, I'd always go the indy route on something like pads, as far as oil changes and services like brake flush's trans service etc, I stick to the dealer, it looks good on the carfax too when you get rid of the car.
