911 Turbo to E63s?

I currently own two cars. A 2012 Mazdaspeed3 as my daily driver and then a 2007 tuned Porsche 911 Turbo. My commute to work is 10 miles round trip in which I'm in traffic basically 8 out of those 10 miles. I typically drive the Mazdaspeed3 and then every now and then, I'll drive the Turbo in to work. On the weekends, when you'd expect to drive the car, I'm usually staying in/around the area and feel like I'm not really driving it.

I'm contemplating selling both the Mazdaspeed3 and the Turbo and just having a single luxury car but I don't want to miss out on the power/fun the Turbo provides.

I've been doing some research and it seems as though the e63s would be a car I could daily drive and put miles on, but still have the power to hopefully keep a smile on my face. I've never driven one before, but from what I've seen, they can put down 600awhp/750awtq with just a tune and downpipe.

Anyone have experience going from a 911 Turbo to their e63s? Would love to hear your thoughts.

I didn't have a turbo, but I had a 996 GT3 and then a E90 M3 previous to the E63.

While the GT3 and M3 were great cars, the E63 is much more comfortable and a better daily driver. The power of the E63 (mine is stock) is "ample". :-)

My commute is also about 10 miles, but all surface streets. I drive the E sometimes.....but it is not my preference because of rough roads. Don't get me wrong, the E handles it much better than the GT3 or M3, its just that I don't like beating the hell out of it everyday. I do drive the E to work more often than I did the other cars though....

I suppose it depends on the roads you drive......if my commute route wasn't to beat up, I would be driving the E more often....

How's the used car market for your gen of Turbo? Seems anything with a 911 (and funnily enough even 912 - ugh) on the rear decklid is hot these days - maybe not as hot as a year ago, but still hot.

I really like the idea of two cars if you've got the room and coin for double running costs (registration, insurance, upkeep, etc).

What about keeping the Turbo and turning the Mazda into something else? Maybe a 4-seater convertible, like a Wrangler? For little to no out of pocket $, you can get a lot of M37 for your money these days.

If you want to bust the budget, the sky is your limit! Obviously.

What do you mean by how is the used market? If I saw cars as investments, my guess is that my generation Turbo is going to appreciate. Why? Few reasons. 1. 996 Turbos are starting to appreciate (they hit rock bottom where you could get them in the $30K range) and are now selling in the low $50s. That's going to start pushing the 997 pricing up as they are the more desired/traditional Porsche. 2. My generation is the last generation with the Mezger engine and 3. My generation is the last generation that Porsche offers a 6 speed manual gear box.

The other option is to sell the Mazdaspeed3 and pick up a clean E55? Still a 4 door car, the only problem with that I'd go from a 30K car to most likely a 70-100K Benz and I lose the versatility of my hatchback. I have a dog, so if I bring him to the dog park or anywhere, he goes back there.

I had a built 996 turbo with an EVOMS kit putting out around 700awhp and I enjoy the E63 far more. I just like being in bigger cars and slapping two door cars around but also be able to throw it in comfort, take it easy, and enjoy the ride / have other people in the car comfortably. Not everyone wants to be in a racecar all the time so it's a happy medium.

I'm also at 620awhp / 763 awtq on a tune / dp and find that my numbers are actually lower than a bunch out there.

And just in case you start to get serious...

Clean car! Seems like all the best cars are always on the opposite side of the country haha.

I was able to meet up with a local guy today. He has a 2014 E63s wagon with EC tune and catless downpipes. He let me take it for a brief spin around the block. Was in sports mode (not Sport+) and was able to get on it in a few straight aways. When I left, I took the Turbo the same way and floored it as well. In comparing the two in straightline, the E63 felt as though it "put me back" more into the seat more than the Turbo. The other thing that was weird was not needing to shift or do anything on the E63. I'd have to get more seat time behind the E63 to really compare it to the Turbo, but obviously the E63 was a lot more "comfortable". My worry is more so how the E63 feels when taking corners which I wasn't really able to test (only straight aways) although when I did make a turn, the active bolsters was something that was nice hah.

Own both cars in 100% stock form. Love them both for what they are and I can tell you the wagon handles excellent as well.

CarHopper 10-21-2017 06:08 PM

The E, while sporty, will never compare to a p-car in the corners. The 911 is far superior

That is to be expected right? But, to be honest, the most "corners" I see while driving is seriously just taking left and right turns and on/off ramp bank turns. I rarely take my Turbo up into the mountains where it would really excel. I'm not really using the turbo for what it is for, a powerful canyon carver.

911 turbo and Benz turbo .... done. Get rid of the Mazda

The E is certainly sturdy through your normal turns. I'm just saying they'll never really compare. You definitely feel the weight in the E, but it'll take the turns and on/off ramps just fine especially for how heavy it is.

If you can swing it, like peter said, p-turbo / e-turbo / done.

HardHitter 10-21-2017 07:37 PM

Haha, I wish I could do so, but we'd have $140K tied up in cars. Not the best when wanting to buy another house sooner or later.

I have a 15 535i BMW M Sport and a 14 E63s 4matic. One stock, one not. Two cars has worked for me.

I had an 07 TT and a 11 E63.......not at the same time, but I'd take the Pcar over the AMG........I miss that little zippy ass Porsche! 6 speed, low to the ground, two doors, EASY to keep clean and looked damn good too :)

What do you have now? I find it unfair to compare a Turbo vs a NA E63. NA E63 vs the Biturbo E63 I'm guessing are two different feels.

I guess here is a question now to everyone. Why do you have two cars? Are there reasons?

I have two cars because I like having the option to drive either, but since I've had both cars, I feel as though I drive the Mazdaspeed a lot more than my Porsche and I don't even have kids yet!

Sounds like you like v6 turbo. Try a drive in a c43 with a tuner. Let us know your thoughts.

Confused by your post? Why does it sound like I like a v6 turbo over a v8 turbo?

My thought is appreciation. If you get out now, you may never get back into a 997 for a reasonable sum of $. However, it sounds like your '07 isn't old enough to start enjoying the run-up that older model are enjoying / have enjoyed so you may not be sitting on a lot of equity.

I like your E55 idea. Make sure it's the more powerful supercharged version. Or better yet, the final year or two when it packed a 6.3L V8 - right?

Crap, you have three set ups in THREE cars?? That is so many seats! I do get sick of switching car seats from car to car though haha. One daughter is old enough for the regular seat and one is still in a strap in, along with the 2 year old hellion :)

[Haha, it's not that bad.....the ISO clips are the HSIT you know? They clip in so easy.......I'm assuming you use the third clip too on the back wind shield? It's super easy when the rear seats recline like they do in the S boat :y
