3 months ago my passenger side was coming off. Dealer installed a complete new piece. I asked, and the new piece uses some 3M 2 sided tape.
This week, the piece was loose again. This time the dealer took it off and replaced the 2 sided tape only. We'll see how long this lasts now.. Anyhow , it's still under warranty for now. MY question is, since this is obviously an issue of some sort and keeps happening, what sort of steps can I take to ensure that, when warranty expires, they still fix this at no cost |
Mine was coming off at the end of last winter and MB covered it under warranty - they ended up replacing the whole side skirt for god knows why.

Friend took it off and got new one from MB.
One was falling apart they fixed it.. months later same issue he took it off and told them it came off.. both sides eventually he as an extra set for the future incase done does come off.
Tring to get them from him...hopefully he will trade it and then I get buy them... They will come off again as water is getting in from the top |
If you really wanna find a permanent solution you may consider a marine epoxy but you'll have to mask things off very carefully

My turn for this to fall off. I know this will come as a major shock to people, so BE FOREWARNED and have a seat - the dealer said this was not covered under warranty. Looking at the warranty docs they appear to be correct... grrr
I don't have confidence in double sided tape, not sure why but a bead of adhesive would seem the best route. That was the OEM solution to affix it so I'll try to find a product made for this application - if anyone has any ideas I'm all ears. FYI the car wash guys hit the tires with a pressure washer, so it would not surprise me if there was overspray that created this issue. Need to ensure whatever I use can take a direct blast (there is a thin reveal where water can get behind) and keep on ticking. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...3271c84bc.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...fb645af4d.jpeg |
