Undoing Night Trim Package?

Considering the purchase of a 2014 E63. The only thing I'm not a fan of on the car I'm considering in the Night trim package. I like the non-monochrome accents in the lower front / rear bumpers and the lower side molding
Is the difference simply paint, or are the trim pieces chrome/metal on the cars without night trim? If simply paint, is there a color code? If metal, how hard to change out?

Thanks.

Its not paint. It is much more sophisticated than that. It is various forms of plating. I get different strokes and all, but someone originally paid extra money for that trim package. So the thought of paying to undo it to me seema a bit silly. If you really don’t like the trim on that car you are probably best off going with another.

In the interest of full disclosure, I have the night trim on my 2015. I waited to find one with it. But my comments above would have been the same without this.

Good luck. Hope you find your car!

I agree with Vrodman - different people have different tastes. I personally would only have bought a night trim or CF packaged car.
But find a car that you like, then pay the right price. That is, instead of spending money changing things like night trim, spend that money on buying a different car. I bet buying the trim pieces separately will run you in the $1-2k range.

Thank you. Buying a used car - even an E63 - is a matter of some compromise. This particular car has the B&O sound system - a very rare option that I'm interested in and may be worth me accepting and/or modifying the night trim that I'm not a big fan of.

Perhaps you might have said "I never cared for that style or package"? Calling it crap is a bit offensive don't you think?

I see you are somewhat new to this site. You should know that we really don't throw around statements like this on this site. I don't know what type of options you have on your car, but would you like it if I posted that it was crap? Do onto others my friend.

Understood. Easier said with typed letters also as I see a lot of members seem to puff their chests on the forum as well. I'm just expressing my opinion. But I also understand it can be offensive. I'll make a note of it.

Undoing night pkg will be closer to $3k for new parts but then you could sell the night trim stuff and offset

I converted my 2014 to the 2015+ night package and I still have the window trim pieces - upper and lower.

Let me know if you want them & we can work something out.

Same issues here

Hi there , been reading this thread a lot lately. Since I’m having same issues with night trim discolouration. I was told it’s car wash degreaser that makes those spots due to being to strong residue. I took it up with Mercedes and they said it’s exterior threatment and they won’t cover it. So I took my car to a detailing company that polish and waxes cars. They said it would cost 3500 SEK / about 350$ to maybe fix. However I got fed up and took matter in to my own hands. It took me about 20 minutes to fix and I was told it was 6-8 hours work.

Alternatively, you could have the parts wrapped silver or a color of your choosing. This will change the look to your preference in a somewhat cost-effective manner, and leave the original night package trim intact should you decide to sell the car at some point.

What exactly did you do yo fix it? just a home polish and wax along the strips? your condition looks identical to mine and if there was a fix without having to pay a lot or replace parts that's and option I'd like to try first!

Thanks

I used Autosol Metal Polish and soft cloth. I doesn’t take much I used maybe a half a finger nail in total per window trim and gently smeared it and then just dried it off with a gentle movement. And instantly then used a wet piece of cloth and then dry. To ensure no residue was left of that polish. It took about 15-20 minutes to do all trims and one tub of that polish here in Sweden costs about 5-6 euro.

Have you had time to try it out and did you get a satisfying result. I will redo mine once weather gets better. 5-6 times in auto wash and I see it’s coming back a little.

I did, and it looks great! All the discolouration went away super easily and now looks great. Agree probably needs do be done a couple of times to get back to showroom finish, but for now I'm very happy, thanks very much!!

Awesome , I’m happy I worked for it for you. I spent weeks looking for solution. I was considering doing vinyl wrap even.

Funny, I just bought the night package trim from MB. I'd sell yours and just buy new. Or offer a trade for someone.
