How Long Does Your 2014 -2016 S Models Take to Warmup?

Hey Guys,

I've been even more cautious about warming up the motor since my tune went in before getting on it. But it sure seems take a lot longer than my 2011 does. This morning I timed it until the blue went to white (159 degrees btw). It took a full 9 minutes. This was with some city driving and mostly highway miles of driving pretty tame. The thing is that my commute is only about 12 minutes total each way (Lucky me. lol). So I don't get to have much fun getting to and from work.

Does this sound the same as what you guys get? It just seems to creep up really slowly. Is the cooling system on the M157's that good? lol

What was the outside temp?

sounds about right ... short commutes suck for this engine ...

this is a GREAT read:

Thanks Peter,

Based on that thread my 9 minutes is actually pretty decent. Lol. The 2011 M156 gets there in about 5 to 6 minutes.

Always had it garaged and in Florida so with the temperature outside being warm, takes 5-10mins. I always warm up my beasts before taking it for a ride.

It's 55 and rainy in NY today. It took roughly 10 mins of <30 mph local driving (traffic lights and all) for mine to warm up (blue -> white). At least you get to drive yours every day, twice a day, for 12 mins. I only get to drive mine on the weekends!

Don't really know the time it takes, but to go from blue to white is between 174 and 176 degrees in my 2012.
174 is blue and 176 turns white, always seems to jump past 175 so I am not sure what the color of that number is.

Vrodman - today is 85 in chicago and took 8 minutes to warm up and hit 159 degrees and turn white..... when it was 55 last week it took 13 minutes and in winter definitely longer. this is with local driving in C mode, does warm up faster on highway it seems...mine is stock with the standard Mobile 0w40 oil

you should not let these cars warm up before driving them. The normal operating range of the car is not idling and to have the engine running at idle is actually not good for the engine (mostly because of incomplete ignition leaving fuel residue on the cylinder walls). You should not start it and rip it, but the fact is that the car will warm up quicker while driving. Start and drive it normallly for 5-10 minutes before doing anything strenuous.

On a side note, the damn liquid moly oil 5/40 in this hot *** summer has been awesome. Much smoother and quieter than the Mobil1, seems to get to normal temps faster but does not get any higher than Mobil1 if flogged in the summer heat. And best of all, no topping off of oil since the last change (~1000miles during which I flogged it a lot more to see how long before top off is needed.)
