quick question about brake change and window trim

2 questions.

Whats the average price for dealer to replace JUST pads? They quoted me 500. Thats me bringing in my own rado pads.

Also i have black window trim. For some reason my window trim started turning rainbow/purple/different colors. Doesn't seem like its coming off if i try to wipe it off. Does anyone know what can cause this?

You can replace the pads yourself by removing the pin and sping on the back of the caliper. Then remove the old brake pads and slide the new ones in. As far as the trim goes, Im not sure. have you ever put any tire shin like products on it? I have a 12 E63 and mine just looks faded.

If you are just doing pads and bringing your own parts there is no reason to go to the dealer unless you really enjoy the service lounge. Either find a good independent or a shop that works on track / race cars a lot. Probably the most delicate part of the job is to make sure they don't scratch your wheels and painted calipers.

FWIW the dealer quoted $532 to replace both front pads, parts + labor. I decided to do pads + rotors, front and rear, in my driveway.

I'd DIY the pad install myself. Our brakes are really easy. Granted I just finished my 8th change on AMG Brembos but, they're still not a tough job. Unusual tools include a hammer punch to punch out the pins, may need new pins and spring plate hardware but that's like $15/pair at most sites.

How many miles on your car that they just suggested pads? $500 just for labor seems high to install pads.

MB is suggesting I do pads/rotors on mine and just crossed over 41k. Total cost was $4500-ish.

Currently weighing out Girodisc vs Racingbrake (oversized SL65) for my 2015 as even after the full parts + labor cost I can save a G and get better performance than OEM.

I'd definitely do the pads yourself; I had the wheels off mine recently and was looking at the calipers and the pad change looks super easy on this one
