would love to see if the big name tuners that have official accounts here would comment on these findings

Not sure i believe his hypothesis, thickness of the rod end doesnt always prove strength, alot of factors go into that..

amg will always factor in a higher level of strength in all their parts..

tbh, there doesnt seem to be a epidemic in rod bending with the M157 i could find?

Hes comparing to other engines he takes apart ,i have been watching him for 2 years and every m157 he takes apart has bent connecting rods

Not really correct theory on the rods and why they bend, the upper end of the rod has nothing to do with the strength, the power is all down through the rod, the tapered rod gives more surface for the piston to press on the wristpin.

Since the theory is that there are a lot of M157s running around with bent rods who do not even know (the bend is so slight, it is not always easy to see with the naked eye), maybe the tapered rod hypothesis may not be that far off. Also like he said, this is just a discussion based on the numerous opened M157s and M278s he has done
I read somewhere that when the rod bends ever so slightly, there are cylinder wall scratches, oil consumption goes up and car misfires a lot easier

I don't disagree that they can bend and not be noticed aside from what you say, excessive wear and oil consumption due to side loading on the bore. What I disagree with is the tapered small end being responsible, that's just not where you have the issue.

The M157 has a large piston and high boost at low rpm relative to the V12 and 113k, the excessive load will cause bent rods more easily. The 55K rod is a monster, that looks like a serious aftermarket piece, no wonder they last forever. The v12 rod is tiny, but they are handling only 60% of the force as there are 4 more cylinders making the same power. They also don't rev as high, which reduces crank harmonics and side loading (v12's are also naturally smoother, so less unwanted vibrations in the drivetrain that contribute to metal fatigue on parts like that)

From his recent post,

95% of these engines he works on are modded engines... tuned and etc, that are beaten on in 100-115F degree weather as he mentions..

bent rods and issues can all come from bad tuning and such.. there isnt a controlled documented failure it seems.

really hard to make a valid decision on the M157 using his experience because of this.. and also why most of us cant find fhis info anywhere on the net, busted water intercoolers and wasgate housings etc
