Opinions needed. Which tune (M157) - OE or EuroCharged?

We got all my boys in this thread! Amaan, Mav, and 916!
I am definitely leaning towards Eurocharged.. I need to wake this baby up.

Not saying I have an AMS tune , but if I did, it's pretty awesome! Throttle response, all gears up to 4 are noticeably stronger, and nice bark on the paddle downshifts.. Car is a completely different animal over the stock tune.

Just curious why AMS is not in your consideration.

We should meetup. I am not too familiar with AMS, but I have heard great things.
Another tuner, "AMR" messaged me on instagram promising some crazy numbers with just a stage 2 tune.. 300 tq..
I find this even more funny because on their website with a dyno tune they don't nearly promise as much as 300 tq...

Where in the Bay Area are you located?

Also, I agree the 300 torque sounds way too high to believe. I believe stock is about 590 and the best dyno results I've seen on this site for torque with tunes is about 770. So that's about 180 right? Plus keep in mind with the torque limiters in the trans, not to mention potential failure issues from that much torque would keep me away from it anyway. BTW, the numbers above were for ECU tune only, not downpipes, larger turbos, or catless.

I have the P30 package so I'm 550/590 stock.
Are you tuned at all?

i'd recommend AMS as their canned tune reportedly has the highest HP and TQ gains around with many positive reviews. Eurocharged is equally good and high quality - in the past, they had tuned my C32 and their service was exceptional, Jerry is involved immediately should any glitches arise which they fix and stand by everything they do. of course first and foremost is - best to select a quality tuner local to you should you need to bring the ECU/car back for adjustments. most tuners will ship same day your ECU but having a local option to real time diagnose any glitches and smooth out those in your tune is always good too

you would not go wrong with AMS or Eurocharged they both seem to be the most problem free M157 tuners around with a large enough critical mass of clients who have been very pleased.

Thank you for sharing. I’m in the Bay Area, CA and they’re all too far. Luckily I have another car so I don’t mind shipping the ECU.
I don’t see the tuning industry getting better here in CA with the new automotive laws effective Jan 1, 2019.

I think I will go with the AMS man. its a pretty penny $2400, but youll get 700+HP and 830 lb ft toque, with no mods. You will also run 1/4 miles in 10.5 average. It becomes a corvette and GTR killer and is in the same realm as the Aventador. Now that is fast. I haven't really seen Eurocharged race their cars like that but check out this E63 (same engine as ours) run 1/4 mile in 10s.
And watch it burn a corvette zr1

To get to 10.5 you will need larger turbos, downpipes, and catless in all likilyhood. You might have to dtch all seats except yours too!
FYI, I am a fan and supporter of the AMS Alpha tune. I am just making sure people are not let down with false expectations.

Your AMS expectations are a bit high. You cited numbers off of their website. Again, not saying I have a tune, , But let's say I do have an AMS ECU-only tune. In this case, the numbers are more like 680-690 Hp, 770 lb-ft, and 11.0- 11.1.

Does anyone know what the "Alpha Performance bolt-on turbocharger upgrade" entail?

Remember that those packages have been out for about years now and AMS ALPHA have some newer better files. Adding down pipes will only give you say 30hp but with just the ECU tune you can probably still run high 10's on a good run. Keep in mind that the CLS63 is about 200lbs lighter than the E63. See this video

Actually on the E63 video that I put up, It ran a 10.8 1/4mile on an ECU tune and some cats/downpipes thats it..without turbos. By adding larger turbos, you get the Alpha 9 package. See https://alphaperformance.com/perform...a-9-cls63-amg/

1/4 mile in 10.5sec might be pushing it but it's only 0.3 secs away. Bottomline even if I can get high 10s I will be happy. Heck most GTR's and vettes hit low 11s.

Great points as the tunes were made years ago and I'm sure AMS has made many new advancements. One thing to note for both you and I is that the car in the video is the E63S 2014 model which is 4matic (AWD) which definitely helps with the 1/4 time and it's lighter than our cars. I wonder what our non-4matic CLS's would do with the same tune.

I think our cars will perform better because the E63 of that year weighs 4400lbs + and our cls63 weighs 4277lbs. plus since our car is a lot smoother and more slick, the drag coefficient woudn't be as much as that of the E63. So I think even though the E63 has the 4matic advantage, I think if you put some nice tires (or race tires for the track) it should have quite some grip to put the power down.

I haven't done any long highway trips to really check it out, but around town I haven't noticed making more trips to the gas station.

I am also in California and tuning is very limited due to our strict SMOG (CARB LAWS).
I am still on the fence if I want a tune for my stock 2014 E63 amg S.
looking at these options:
euro charger tune
AMS ECU tune (Currently, top choice)
AMR handheld
Weistec ECU tune
