e63 or e450
Very serious about getting a 2014-16 E63 Wagon but when i look at the CarFax's on Autotrader on these cars for sale, it seems like they are in the shop every few months. Is this common? The new e450 will go 0-60 in 4.9 seconds, has the third row and newer tech.
I drove a 2014 E63 wagon and it was great, i'm just concerned about those operating costs. I would be trading my 2015 e350 sedan

Hmmmm??
0-60 in 4.9? Or 0-60 in less than or equal to 3.5? Which appeals to you more? 2019 E63 is around 3.1 or 3.2 I believe STOCK. If you have not experienced the difference, you cannot truly appreciate how big this difference is.

2015 E63S
I second what Vrodman said above. Also, these cars have two COMPLETELY different characters. The way it rides, the way it accelerates and KEEPS on accelerating, the way the engine and suspension feel in your hand through the connection of the steering wheel, the sound, the raw feel of the mechanical clutch engaging to grab gears..etc etc etc...
Your just looking at one spec number, "its pretty close, so they must be the almost the same".
That said, the E450 will be silky smooth family car that im sure will be very reliable I guess. Who knows? they only got introduced in 2018 after changed from the E400...

Personally I like the W212 E63s Wagon style over the W213 style. They appear to be on the rare side which makes it more unique on the road. Every time I see one, I can't stop staring at it because it looks so good.
I would choose E63s just the fact it has abundance more power and it is an AMG car. And 1.5 seconds is a huge difference!!
E63s and E450 driving characteristic is night and day. If you want more power/speed/and luxury go E63s. If you are not into more power then E450 should suffice.

I'd have to vote for the wagon, just for joy and happiness.

Drive them.
I got a CPO E63s after comparing a brand new E wagon because, well, the E63s is awesome. If you can't tell the different save your money and go buy a Volvo
In saying that, you may like the silkyness of a regular E but personally I hate it. I just drove one last week when my car was in for warranty work - blah. Nothing wrong with those that like it but you should really drive them to see the difference.
You can buy and install the 3rd row in the E63 if that's a deal breaker for you.

My wife and I sold her 2000 C230K Sport we bought new a couple years ago. Great car. She took over our older workhorse LX470 and we set out to take our time on a replacement of the C class. I pushed for a VW Golf R but the dealerships would not let us drive one and I told them they were insane. Drove a new M3 and came very close. Drove the w213 wagon highly specd and I damn near fell asleep. Great tech, smooth ride, fairly quick, on and on. Found a 15 CPO E63S wagon with factory warranty plus another year CPO extended. Bought another two years of CPO warranty. Car has been great for one year of ownership.
I cannot even begin to tell you how entirely different the two wagons are. The 63 wagon is quite simply amazing. You own the road and it is rewarding to drive even in traffic. The w213 450? Great wagon but it isn't at all the same experience. Price was a wash for both of them, low 80s out the door.

exactly for the same price the AMG is a no-brainer.
Interior is better
road feel is better
looks is better
dash is better
handling is better
power and noise is better
and by better I don’t mean just improved that’s misleading. It’s completely different AND better. The cars merely look similar but everything about them is different.
Like a restaurant that serves gluten-free vegan un-salted tofu patty or a Pittsburgh crusty steak with peppercorn sauce.
The steak only has a few more calories, right? Otherwise basically the same?

i repeat my post from the other thread - basically the sam answer: You will pay - either way....
Short summary - for the scenario you are talking about, you will pay about same amount of depreciation expense over 3-4 years.
And you even state yourself:"I drove a 2014 E63 wagon and it was great." So - who to trust - yourself or the Internet trolls?
In one car you are "average white collar Joe driving your wife's, clearly leased, wagon, pref with a 'Kids on board' sticker".
In the other you are joining the cult of "cool guys that live an active lifestyle and like to outrun the pXXXX enlarging P car club on the weekends"....
Your call.
Just saying.....

Both good cars but do you want something special? When we drove the E400 Wagon (this was 2016) we were just not that impressed. The car felt incredibly expensive for what it was. When we drove the E63 Wagon it felt incredibly special and while it was $40k more we felt that it was worth it. 2.5 years later we still love the car and continue to appreciate all the factors that make it special. Life's too short to drive (expensive) boring cars.

I know the E63 is the answer, They are super bad ***, very special (i've only seen three of them in my life / i live in Nashville) just trying to confirm and more importantly, trying to find the sweet spot to get in and avoid all that depreciation.

There's a price to pay for having a bada$$ car... no matter how you roll it you have to pay the tax of enjoying a car this nice or nicer
