I kinda get your point but Race Starts are pretty neutered so I’m not sure I’d call the MCT robust. I probably have 50 or 60, most while stage 2.

im stock and done probably 150+ race starts in the 2.5 years of owning my 15 e63 (2!nd owner) I have never been to a track but do drive it in a spirited fashion. I’ve done multiple (4-5) race starts over a 20-30 min period and never had any problems with the trans and dealer hasn’t reported any trans issues to me thus far...so the MCT trans seems pretty stout but of course the car really doesn’t launch that hard due to the trans software limitations MB has on the car which everyone on these boards is well aware of.

Talking with the instructors at Brand Immersion, they do hundreds of race starts every week and only cycle the cars out every 3 months. He said 4-5000 race starts on each car usually, and they had zero failures.

Thats amazing insight! Thanks so much for this.

honestly nobody should be afraid of using the race start feature for reliability reasons. its optimized and honestly on the weaker/safer side. to be honest giving full throttle from a stop or doing your own brake boost launch can be a little more of a strain than race start. for anyone that uses race start you can probably agree it seems pretty watered down and safe compared to what the car is capable of. MB has intense tq limiters to begin with so no need to be afraid of using that race start for reliability reasons

That little Race Start option on the trans dial was deliberate by AMG engineering and designed in with maany safety restrictions in mind to ensure an E63 AMG owner can repeatedly use that Race Start (STOCK owners, anyways....) feature and not destroy the trans. I've done 10 or more repeated Race Starts within a 30 min period on off highway runs and no issues with amazing consistency in the launch (although we all know the launch is lacking, but again thats because of the safety restrictions AMG put in the Race start feature).
now if you are tuned with upgraded turbos, exhaust and didnt upgrade the clutch packs or trans - then you will probably see some issues with Race Start wearing out your trans, but thats why prefer to keep my E63 stock with the belief that AMG designed it to be driven aggressively in stock form

The launch control in this car reminds of the paranoid launches we'd do to protect the fragile old bugeye WRX 5-speeds. BRAP BRAP BRAP EASY EASY EASY *shift to 2nd* OK GO GO GO

Lumi - dude go enjoy your AMG and do a bunch of Race Starts! Think about it... Mercedes knows that any AMG will get driven more aggressively than any other Mercedes product and they WANT you to drive an AMG that way which is why they build the AMG versions!!!!
