Carbon brakes to steel?

Hi guys- figured I would make my first post a dumb one to get it out of the way. I did search for an answer before posting, but couldn’t find anything directly on point.

Can an E63 equipped with ceramic brakes be swapped to steel rotors without changing the calipers? I have PCCBs on my Porsche GT3RS and know that it’s pretty easy to swap to steel (which is most track guys do), however I can’t get a clear answer on whether this is possible on an E63 (wagon if it matters, but think there is no difference in brakes with a sedan).

Found plenty of threads where people want to upgrade their cars to ceramics, but very few the other way.

Also saw where Racingbrake has kits but it was unclear whether they were just replacements for what is already on the car or if you can swap from ceramics to steel.

Thanks in advance.

Brendan

I have also wondered this. Say if you can find a steel rotor the same size, swap that in and new brake pads. I'd think it should work... but I haven't really researched the matter since I found a few posts in the interwebs stating that the CCB rotors would last over 100K.... I will never be able to drive any of my cars even close to that.

Why would you want to? I have 27k miles and recently had the rotors measured and have barely any wear (about 95% of new). Pads also have moderate wear and are relatively cheap to replace - $690-700 for the pads.

Don't stress! Such great brakes, no need to swap.

Agreed. Since you have a GT3RS, I'm sure you are not taking your E to the track, which in my view would be the only reason to swap carbon to steel. My $0.02.

Even then they seem very robust. Even gen 2/3 PCCB, much better. Keep pads no less than 40-50% of new and should be good to go.
