just asking ....

Hi, had an A service done on the e63 and of course they came back with a list of recommended services. Not questioning the need for these service at 70K. My question is if these prices seem reasonable to you guys. Especially $110.00 to replace windshield wipers? Thank for your input ...

The only price that looks reasonable is for the transmission service, all the other prices are way high IMO.

$945 for spark plugs is nearly 3 times what I was quoted to replace mine with factory Mercedes plugs. The alignment is not totally insane, but it's definitely on the high end.

Can't speak for the rest.

All these price are off. Funny how the air filter swap is more than a alignment.

Go to MbOnlineparts.com and check out how bad they have marked everything up.

Battery + Aux battery = 280$ online
Air filters = 70$ for both online

and so on..

also i replaced my cabin filter for 20$ from FCP euro, 150$ is totally unreasoneable. Its just a car at the end of the day not a rocket.

FYI.
Mechanics and service writers get bonuses based on these reccommended services when you have the work done and pay for them.

No bonus on warranty stuff
just cash sale business stuff...

So once you get out of warranty watch the list grow to list everything on the car.

Good luck

My last wipers were comped as a thank you.
My last battery was covered under factory warranty
My last plugs were free in the new engine that came free

And I also have the prepaid maintenance for next 3 services.

Sorry, I couldn't resist being a wiseguy!!

I did all this work myself. Just look at Pelican Parts, FCP Euro, and other websites like that. Even the alignment can be done at alignment shops. At the end of the day they just adjusting the suspension to spec. I got quoted about 1000 for engine mounts and tans mount and I did it for about 300

You found an indy that can do alignment with distronic? Or maybe you don't have distronic? Interesting.

I do have distronic but thats not what is adjusted. Its just basically camber and toe. Which are done by adjusting a threaded rod or with camber bolts. My car is lowered so that always shows up as incorrect

+1

Even WIS doesnt mention anything about distronic while performing wheel alignment or chassis alignment. At least i didnt see it being mentioned.

Doc: AR40.20-P-0200EW

It does however mention to raise the vehicle and lower it before carrying out the checks. Lower it by putting the suspension in to Sport mode and Raise it by going back to Comfort.

Interesting. Every time the subject of alignment comes up with my SA he mentions that is more involved than other cars due to calibrating the distronic. Maybe an exaggeration. Hmmmm

This is correct, i know when looking up my Vin for a E63 AMG S 4matic with distronic, Benz recommends to re-aim or calibrate distronic, more then likely for safety reasons... I have had 2 wheel alignments done by my dealer and from what in know either were done via work order sheet, or i wasnt charged extra for this.

Most dealers wont go by WIS for much of anything they do, but anytime you get a wheel alignment done, ask for a before and after sheet.. These are easy enough to read since its color coded and will pressure the techs to actually do a correct job.

And where did you look up your vin? Not sure about you but i had an alignment done on 2/18/19 and the SA didnt say anything about distronic being re-aimed. I asked exactly what was performed.

The other thought is you could just enable distro while cruising on a laned highway and see if the alignment and distro tracking seem fine ... if so then perfect

.... " i replaced my cabin filter for 20$ from FCP euro"...

Is FCP EURO a good place to buy from in general? I'm asking because I live litteraly 10 minutes from them.

Yes many people use them, i always buy the liquimoly oil change kit from them. They also sell alot of mb oem parts, never had a problem with fcp euro products so far.

Yes a lot of people like them for the lifetime warranty the have on all parts sold. Even oil. People buy an oil kit and then send back the old oil and it gets credited back to them. That's a little too extreme for me, I'd rather just buy it locally.

But the best bang for buck is probably a maintenance package. It would cover the transmission and spark plugs if they were due. The vendors in the extended warranty sub forum also sell them. You can buy them up to 80k so if OP was at 70k, he could get a 3 pack to cover the next 3 services.

That list is straight up robbery! Changing the wipers literally take less than five minutes. The only two things on that list that remotely reasonable are the transmission oil change and alignment. And yes, they are expensive but not outrageous compare to the rest.

In most major cities import auto repairs locations are popping up to service our repair needs after our warrantees are up. I take my 2012 to a location by my house and they are ex Master Techs that started their own repair business and I save over 60% on all repairs. They are also current' restoring my old '99 S Class Benz that's been in storage for over 10 years, Here is an example of a new one that just opened up in the suburbs of Chicago and the owners are ex BMW and Mercedes Master Techs. I suggest doing some research and ditching the dealer for service out of warranty coverage. Dealers make more money on service than they do selling cars so techs are leaving and starting their own businesses to cash in on this opportunity.
