That's interesting because many others in the W211 community (my old ride) used to say the same thing about having the suspension in Comfort mode, yet Race Start requires you to move it out of comfort mode.

I have to note that even though my new-to-me W212 is supposed to have about 50 more hp than my 2006 E55, the power in the E55 felt much more accessible. It felt like it just came on without having to mash the accelerator to extremes. That's why I'm reading these threads trying to make my 2012 E63 behave more like the behemoth it's supposed to be.

Thanks!

I’ve only driven turbo vehicles but I imagine part of the learning curve coming from a NA or supercharger is how to develop load to get those turbos spooling. The car feels like a beast at 2500-3000 RPM going up a hill but on flat and at speed I need to be above 5000 to give me that feeling of being pushed back in the seat. Just a quick downshift and throttle mash solves it. Waiting for the tranny to figure it out on its own doesn’t work for me.

I was racing my buddy this past weekend (on a closed track of course, cough) on his Suzuki V Strom 1000, and when that M157 is under the proper load I had zero problems walking away from him. But it requires some throttle strategy for sure.

Put an AMS or Eurocharged ECU tune in your car and it will indeed be the beast you thought it would be. I suspect much of the feel that you think you are missing is also just the annoying throttle lag with the M157. If you do not want to place a tune in the car, you can install a SprintBooster to your pedal. They cost about $300 and they take about 10 minutes to install (if you are chatting with friends, drinking a beer, and taking your time. lol). I actually have both a tune and the SB. But when my tuned ECU is in I turn the SB completely off. The tune already improves throttle response quite a bit. When both are on, she's way too sensitive and very jerky to drive. SprintBooster will not improve Hp or make your 0-60 times any faster. However, you will like the responsiveness. It is noticeable.

Holding the brake down firm is absolutely required. This, I am embarrassed to say, escaped me for a long time. I took the car to the dealer complaining that my RS did not work. Even their tech was struggling getting it to work. I finally gave up and figured I don't really need it anyway. Then one day out of the blue I thought about the brake pedal. I pressed it even a bit harder than for brake hold. RS came up every time! So brake pedal pressure is essential.

With all that said, as I mentioned above, Brake Boost will actually get you a better launch than RS once you master it.

Just sharing

Curiously, the manual says that Race Start will be disabled if you do it "repeatedly in a short period of time", and will be reactivated only after you have "driven a certain distance."

i've used RS as much as 4-5 times consecutively (within 10-15 mins) and have not seen the "disable" warning. I'm sure it will disable at some point to ensure you dont trash the trans......

I've only done RS one time, and the RPMs topped at 3,500 before launch instead of 4,000. And there was a strange pause and lurch at the start. After that, it was very impressive. Maybe I wasn't pushing the gas pedal down far enough. I know you're supposed to feel the button go down under the accelerator. I'll try it again when the weather clears up.
