Tow hitch receiver for bike trailer on a 2010 Sedan?

Was honestly surprised that there were only two semi-related threads in this whole forum (and both seemed to be specific to wagons), so I figured I'd make a new post. Despite the fact that most manufacturers says their trunk racks are compatible, they get alarmingly close to the spoiler before even loading a bike and are just a pain to install/remove before you use them every time, so I'm kinda ruling those out for now. I found the following Curt hitch receiver but it's tough figuring out if it's only specifically compatible with our cars vs the E350; I think the exhaust and undercarriage is configured differently on our cars.

Any other ideas? I think I'm alright with having a shop cutting a hole in the bumper if necessary, since it shouldn't take away much from resale value, but I sure as hell am not qualified/equipped well enough to do it myself. The only other option I've found otherwise is a Stealth Hitch, but they're pricey and I'm still not sure if those specifically fit the E63 either. Any kind of help would be appreciated, though at this point, I think I've got the perfect reason to replace my sedan with a wagon

Did you ever get this resolved? I'm looking at purchasing an E53 in the coming years and can't find any hitch solution that will work for my eMTB.

2026 E53 Wagon
I too am planning on getting an E53 (wagon) and looked into Stealth's hitch. They said that their engineer's haven't yet looked at the newer E-class cars. I asked that a mention be forwarded to those engineers to take a look at the E450 wagon / E53 wagon so I too can take my bikes with me...

I read that putting bikes on top of roof racks will decrease gas efficiency by 15%...

I used the Stealth Hitch on my E63, but even then I had to get a small slit cut into the trim piece on the bottom of the bumper by a body shop. Thing was nothing but solid as hell for me - multiple 1000+ mile road trips with my ~30lb MTB at the time, zero issues.

As per an E53, I have no idea. Ask Stealth about it (or maybe U-Haul) and they will usually offer to make one for you if you can leave the car with them for a few days. Not a great solution, but maybe not terrible if they're not too far way from where you live.

2026 E53 Wagon
IMO you should never use U-haul for hitches. I took a car to them that they said "sure...you can put a hitch on this vehicle" and then quoted some weights it could carry. Utter failure. They will say they can put a hitch on a hippo, doesn't mean it is true or that it can be done SAFELY.

That was pretty much my opinion on them as well after doing some research. Like, it *might* be alright for a bike rack around town, but much more than that and you were asking for trouble.

Posted to Stealth Hitch's Facebook page about the CLE or the E53, I forget which, and they said it currently was not in their planned Engineering backlog. Perhaps it was the CLE, which is a relatively new model. Either way, you think they'll still make one for it, if I ask??? Personally, I have no issue trimming the rear diffuser if it adds the functionality of a hitch/bike rack for my eMTB.

They were great about helping me out when I realized that their kit didn't account for the separate diffuser on the E63, so I'd like to think they'd still be helpful. That was quite a few years ago, however. Was kind of a kick in the ***** to spend a couple hours taking out all the trunk interior and installing everything just to hold up the final piece (the hitch itself) and go... "hmm, where the hell is this supposed to go?"
