.All season vs Performance summer tires
Fast forward, with my recent purchase of this wagen 9 months ago, it came with the A/S 3's and though they needed replacement, I was still not happy with them. with not many good all seasons out in the market, I decided to go with summer performance tires instead. One of the members was selling his HRE's with barely used MSS so I bit the bullet and bought the set.
Dealing with Mrharris 964 was pleasure and the transaction went uneventful- thanks.
The set was flawless with tires in excellent shape with NAD.
Now lets get back to the point.
Michelin A/S3's:
Noisy, harsh and bumpy
Michelin PSS:
Relatively softer, much quitter, rides very smooth and OMG, are they sticky, well sicky is not the right word. The steering feels so much more direct and responsive now. Going forward, all my cars going to get the summer tires with one car with dedicated winter or all season tires.
What ever i buy, it definitely won't be the POS A/S 3's, for sure.

Can't comment between the PSS vs PS4, but the car needs designated summer and an all season/winter tires for the winters, that's what i meant?
Re-read the post again, I guess you meant 900/1000 as HP/TQ, correct? OML!

I put a set on my RX-7 (as a back up set on the OEM wheels) and am very happy with them. VERY quiet. Super predictable. Hooks up nicely. Have not tried them yet in the rain or cooler temps. No plans on using them in the winter.
But based on my limited experience and reviews will have no issues putting them on my wife's X3 and my E63s when the Pirellis need replacement. FWIW we put winter tires on all of our vehicles, but to avoid getting caught in an early snow storm, late snow I find that I am swapping the winter tires on a bit earlier than needed, and keep them on a month longer than necessary. I swap my tires back to summer tires sooner as I have a Jeep (that also runs winter tires) can use if the snow shows up.
I do not track my E63 and it is primarily a winter car, but I do enjoy putting the foot to the floor and expect that the E63 will hook up with the Michelin AS4.

My car came with Pirelli PZero's which would wheel hop terribly when the temps dipped to 40F range and those just spun even in warmer weather so I'll never buy another set of Pirellis again.
I did have Michelin AS/3 tires and didnt have any complains on them. The ride was comfortable and much softer compared to the PS4S yet they still hooked pretty decent.... although nothing like the PS4S.




I won't be shopping for the E63 for a year or 2 fortunately.
I have seen on other posts of guys taking some pretty negative swipes at all-season tires. While I do agree summer tires will outperform all-season tires in many conditions (even chilly weather), the problem is when you drive the car in winter in an area where it is below freezing in the winter. The compound stiffens up on summer tires and it can be at risk of cracking, chunks being torn out, and other damage due to the tires losing their flexibility. Snow tires are another option, but if it is cold and dry in the winter (only occasional small snows), the all seasons may be the best option in winter for overall performance. I would never drive my E63 in heavy snow, even if I had snow tires. It would become a plow after a couple of inches of snow anyway!

For me, this has always been a choice about driving habits and preferences. I also have a dedicated winter car... so that helps.
