2014 M157 Engine ~54,000 miles
Need some advice. I have a 2014 M157 engine with ~54,000 miles possibly for sale (was in my 2014 E63S). The reason I swapped out engines is because I was losing coolant at a decent rate. Oil sample turned out the coolant was getting into the oil... showed high metal elements and coolant elements etc etc but no metal shavings or anything of that sort. One would assume head gaskets, but I had Mercedes Benz of Fort Wayne and another local shop look it over for months (probably a total time of one month at each place). Neither could figure out the issue without an entire teardown of the engine. At this point, Mercedes recommended I swap the engine out as an unknown amount of wear on the internals due to coolant in the oil. So the engine could be in great condition and just needs something replaced to stop the coolant from getting into the oil or the engine could need taken to a shop to be refurbished. I only drove 2 thousand miles with this issue prevalent. (took some time to notice it was an actual issue and not just some normal coolant loss and also back and forth to the shops constantly). Should I try to find a shop that would take a look at it as in good condition it will go for ~$15,000 or just sell it as is with the history. Not sure how much I could get as is. I have all receipts and oil sample papers. Thanks in advance.

Stay strong my man.
Certainly look into replacing all the hose lines, seals, frront cover, expansion/reservoir tank and etc.
Best to eliminate any leakage of coolant passage from reservoir to the engine is secured or replaced with new components for extra measure.
Although the internal damage could be possible. It’s highly recommended to simply fix this gremlin and re-assess.
