Hey everyone, after doing some research I haven’t found a solid answer or thread on our cars intercooler pumps. Do we have a specific one like the e55 010 pump or does ours just flow from the water pump? What do you guys typically see over ambient temperature when cruising on the highway? Trying to gauge if I need a new IC pump or not!

Thanks for the info Peter and I’ve seen the video contemplating doing that small mod too! Here are my logged IAT’s today with descriptions, does it look normal? Cruising on highway 76 degrees outside After it hit 113ish dropped down to 99 and fluctuated up and down there. Seems that’s when the pump turns on ( stop and go traffic on highway) Oil temps etc
What are the conditions where this pump would run when the car is off? I hear it running almost every time I park the car and then sometimes when I unlock it.

Are you certain that’s not the headlight fans you hear running? They are much more audible on my e63s

also, if you have the intercooler pump always on modification, it will run for 10 minutes after the car is shut off and also sometimes if you unlock the car, but as mentioned above, I think that this could be your headlight fans that you're actually hearing

Headlight fans?! Hah, who knew? Dad is borrowing the car right now but I plan to check out that relay and take a look at the reservoir to see if the previous owner performed the mod. The sound I hear is the same whirr sound at 7:43 in Kenney's video.
So I listened to the sound in that video at that point, it does sound like the headlight fans, but Kenny seems to indicate that that is the intercooler pump. also it was loudest by the headlight.
My intercooler pump with the always on mod sounds like gurgling and bubbling around that central fluid reservoir that he opened the cap in that video. It is a distinct and different sound, and the headlight fans that sound almost like emergency community tornado sirens.

Got it. I haven't had the chance to remove the engine cover and check out the central reservoir yet. But I think what I'm hearing is the headlight fans - especially based on your description there. It is a noticeable - but soft - siren-like noise.
