What is the method for getting this piece off?

I noticed a little notch in the ring and a little tappity tap with flathead/hammer did it..

Last time I had to take one off (my old C240) it was a simple gear puller from Harbor Freight.

2012 E63 Wagon

F around with that shaft and you risk replacing the rear glass. I would remove the motor and heat (warm) the shaft with a propane torch. Used motors run about $60 on ebay A2129064402. Replace the $3 grommet A0009987205 while you are at it.
