Talking Love my E63s-wagon.

20-year junior member here!
This forum has given me so much good info over the last 2 decades.
Just picked this up last September (2025) and have been loving every moment with it.
A very special utility vehicle, with me finding the fuel gauge near empty often, ever since the first fill up lol.
I've had a lot of vehicles over the last 20 years, some I've kept around for 3 months, some 8+ years (Tacoma): nothing fancy, lots of daily vehicles.
This was a car I really waited for. After about 6+ months of looking, I couldn't find one with the rear AC control specs that I wanted. I was open to both sedans or wagons. Ultimately, I relented on the rear AC control option when I found a cool private seller and pulled the trigger... It was a wagon. It has some mileage on it. But it's ok as the car wasn't meant to be a garage queen. With two young kids and baseball bags with dirt on the wheels (thank you WeatherTech tub) this thing has been a joy.

First fill up at the gas station to make the 400mile trek home.

How it looked when I picked it up.

Should I do a resonator delete?
This is the type of question I have with my ChatGPT now...
.... "pressure testing" this in the forum...

No, I think AMG perfected these exhausts. You risk making the car drone and driving yourself nuts.

I appreciate this.
I was hesitant to cut into something for no real reason - other than sound for a relatively small investment. The YouTube videos left me undecided.
I just picked up some CLS63 wheels I'm about to put on with 295/30/19 for the rears and the 255/35/19 in front.

Videos are always tough to make comparisons, unless the "before" and "after" videos are recorded with the same equipment in the same setting. Even then, they don't fully capture the nuances.

If you're still intent on modifying the exhaust sound, I'd recommend buying aftermarket pieces that can be bolted on. This way, you'll retain your stock pieces should you decide to revert back. These stock pieces are expensive, making it hard for me to justify hacking them up.

Wheels are a great mod in my perspective because it's easily reversible. I would be interested in seeing pics once you have them installed!

For me, I did an H pipe. I could have done an X, we had a discussion...H was easier, less costly and got rid of what I considered an "odd burble" at idle.

Here is my wagon with redstar downpipes. I think that is the best mod for sound/performance personally.

Where in southern california are you? just like other members have said, its hard to gauge the sound based on videos. Mine has the resonators deleted with h pipe and stock mufflers. You can really hear it underload, at idle very very tame. I am switching out downpipes and complete exhaust in a the next month or so whenever the parts come in.

Congrats! Leave the exhaust alone

I've got a '14 E63S Estate, now closing in on 120k miles. Have had it for 6 years, and have considered fiddling with the exhaust but decided to leave it alone. It sounds great imho, and no droning so pleasant on a long haul (I'm in S CA and we love our road trips!).

This forum's been a great asset, has certainly helped me keep mine sorted

A resonator delete on a C63 makes it sound quite a bit louder with no appreciable drone. The tone was definitely a result of the rear muffler segment.

No idea how it would sound on an E63, but it would definitely wake up the exhaust volume. At times I wish the E63 was louder (like my 2015 C63), but for highway cruising it is nice to have a car that has no appreciable exhaust tone and definitely a bonus with no drone.

Yes, you should.
Replace with H pipe (3" I believe it is - check the forum). It's super subtle, a sliver more rumble at idle (and especially during initial higher rev cold start). A bit more sound when pushing it, but very limited actually.
And key for a wagon owner - zero drone. Note that "generally" wagons are more sensitive to drone, or rather, if you get drone you hear it more and it's more annoying.

I hate drone, and there is none with the H pipe. Ask the muffler shop to cut the existing resonator with some stubs, then you can always weld it back in if you change your mind. .

Easily the most capital efficient exhaust mod you can do.
