2017 W213 E63 AMG to have AWD system that can send 100% torque to the rear?

Well thats pretty cool. Can't wait to see what this thing can do.:zoom:

Looks like they've built another beast of a sedan.

gaspam 09-30-2016 08:00 PM

its supposed to have a drift mode with awd system similar to ford focus RS, but no news yet if it just a novelty where you put it in "drift mode" and do burnouts in the parking lot and then put it back into normal awd mode with fixed ratio or if it will actually vector 100% of power to the rear during normal driving when car senses it can.

damn, I'm old

If it was 5 or more liters I'd be really interested in ordering one. I just can't see myself being happy with the power limit of a 4 liter.

chiromikey 09-30-2016 10:01 PM

I'm not concerned with liters as much as I am with MBs inability to put out a transmission that makes driving an AMG a pleasure. Trying to take off in S or S+ smoothly is almost impossible or lucky at best. And I won't even get into trying to launch these. I just can't believe it's harder to drive this car smoothly than my last two supercharged 55s. An M or RS car will likely be my next purchase.

Pretty sure you can drift in the w212 Amg -- dyno mode

vcci 10-01-2016 01:38 AM

Thats exactly why I bought a 13...and now with RT tune its tire burnin heaven.

Ralcbah 10-01-2016 11:25 AM

The drift thing might be fun. Definitely more interested in the comments around how the w213 AMG is such a large leap from the W212. Intrigued.

otakki 10-02-2016 07:35 PM

Yes, go ahead and admit the limitation and inefficiency of having the fixed split 33:66 ratio.

EddieK 10-02-2016 10:58 PM

I'm thinking the new 9-speedy tranny will make a big difference on the new E63. I'm in a 17' E300 loaner right now while my car's getting serviced and it's the highlight of this car. Which, i know, will be completely different in the 63 application, but it's a really smooth transmission. Hopefully they can figure out the lag issue(which is one of the things my car is in for.)

You must be kidding. If you didn't have so many posts here, I'd assume you're a troll. And then you say "my next car will be M or RS???" What a goon... you know what the night and day difference is between them? Or how an RS is more like the AMG than anything?

My '14 AMG wagon vs my 6.2ltr AMG wagon is FAR better in every way. Perhaps except for lack of traction in a launch.

I think your 42 posts speaks for itself but I'll still apologize if my opinion hurts your feelings.

This was a totally useless post

Love it how chiro makes a very appropriate and pertinent statement that many of us agree with -- and then you call him a "goon"

He makes a comment about the drivetrain and driveability of the AMG, this is a BIG deal and one that affects you every time you accelerate from a stop. Glad you're the resident expert on all cars produced, will look forward to your highly informative posts next time.

More information, not much, but a bit more. So it was so supposed to debut at Paris early Oct 16, now looks like Detroit early Jan 17.

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/ne...and-drift-mode

I would not go ///M, they can't figure out how to do connecting rod bearings after several generations of problems with said component. I just had mine done! I hear the DCT 7 speed is the most superior transmission in this class though.

I've tried it in the Macan Turbo and thought it was a great gearbox. Way better than the very good and ubiquitous ZF 8 speed torque converter automatic. The PDK II will be in the next Panamera and will sport 8 forward gears.

I shoot for quality, not quantity. Get a life and lose the attitude; you seem to have more than a few useless posts out of the 5,600+ you've dropped.

The drivability of the W212 transmission is far better than the earlier gen E63, and to date as good as anything else I've driven on varied road conditions.
