Finally have the Michelin PA4's 265/40/19 with the Braelin rims installed!

They look good and ride great. Big thanks to bobblehead for all his feedback and advice!

Looks good. I wonder why people choose black rims for a black car. I would think it would look better with a brushed alloy appearance to accent the tires. Just my two cents here.

hide dirt because you won’t be cleaning them that often.

Gotcha! The the thing is that the silver turns a dirty brown and so does the black. Sort of a losing battle during the winter. I have the power washer set up to clean the wheels quickly. The rest of the car is foamed and hosed down.

E53 winter setup?

Anyone have any advice for what to look for for the e53? I'm assuming everything that people have recommended here would work just fine? I want 19s (should I look at 19x9.5 or 19x8.5) and for the rubber what size should I be looking for? Car will be used in real winter conditions in Canada. I don't think my dealer has anything and I don't want runflats.

As an option, I believe you can use E43 setup ... which would be
Front Wheels: 8Jx19 ET20 245/40
Rear Wheels: 9Jx19 ET49 275/35

TPMS Sensor Part #: A0009052102

I'd like a square setup. I have the staggered 20s so I'm not sure what the stock 19s look like. Sounds like most people with E63s are using 255/40 265/40. Would that work too presumably?

Good question. I haven't picked it up as yet so I will ask the salesperson. They are the 20s that come with the AMG package but I can't find the information on them online.

need the wheel width and offset so we can suggest something that is closest to factory spec. without use of spacers.

btw, the mb.ca website says factory 19" winter set offering for E53 cost around $4700 Cdn + tax + installation.

From research ... looks like your E53 has this setup
20-inch AMG 5 Twin-Spoke Alloy Wheels in Bi-Colour Black

F: 245/35 ZR20 on 8.0 J x 20 ET 20
R: 275/30 ZR20 on 9.0 J x 20 ET 49

If you want square 19" setup ... I would suggest
Front Wheels: 8Jx19 ET20 245/40
Rear Wheels: 8Jx19 ET40 - 45 or 8.5Jx19 ET 40-49 245/40

It looks like most aftermarket rims are 8.5 or 9.5 inches wide so I'm going to go with 8.5 40ET all around 245/40/19. Make sense? Thanks for the advice!

I went with stock rims staggered Sottozero 3: Front 255/35R-20, Back 295/30R-20. Have about 800 miles on them, great in the rain- have not had any snow in NY yet to test out. But I am very happy with them so far.

I went with 9 inch wide wheels as recommended by Tirerack, for the 265/40/19 square set up. Not the best pic - weather has been crappy and I have only had the car for just over 1 wk,...

no. Your front offset is 20 factory and you will need to be in around that figure. Otherwise, your aftermarket front offset with 40 could cause rubbing

Weird. I can't find any wheels with that offset. I guess I'll have to confirm fitment before I commit.

it will be somewhat hard to find esp. if you are shopping on wheel style first, then wheel width and offset.

for example.
factory front: 19x8 et20

if you go aftermarket front: 19x8.5 et40 ... then based on the calculation ....
an inner rim which is 26.4mm closer to the suspension strut. The outer rim will poke out 13.7mm less than before.

Not a true winter set, but if anyone is interested in a good A/S tire, the Bridgestone Potenza RE980AS is a great choice. Zero issues in minus temps, over ice and in light snow.

I'm driving in real winter conditions (Longyearbyen, Svalbard). We have ice and snow all winter (from october until may)
Do they allow studded tires in Canada? In that case I would go for the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 studded tire. Really just the best winter tire I've been using ever.

I'm using 255/40-19 on my E63S

Worked very well here in NC as well when we had 8 inches of heavy wet snow. No issues at all in low temps either. A/S UHD tires in recent years are much better than the ones only 3 years ago most likely because of the increased presence of high performance cars.

Yes studded are an option and I do like the Nokians. I will probably go with the R3 as I did on my other vehicles though. Studded is a little overkill for the area that we are in.
