E63s deliveries in North America?
#51
Update: I got a call back from MB Laval (Canada). I am quoting my voicemail, "The car is supposed to be certified by the end of this month and the first deliveries will be the beginning or mid September, we need to upgrade the software of the engine management on the car when they do get approved by the government"
I hope this gives some people some clarity...or it could be another circle jerk by Benz I dunno. Gotta wait till mid Sept to find out.

The GM of the dealership here in LA told me the same thing. Deliveries will only happen starting around 09/15/17

If the car is not in my garage at the end of september, I cancel it and go with other car. I'm tired of this bull****.

I think maybe people are too quick to blame Mercedes and not the EPA, that has been the hang up with these cars being certified. If MB had their way these cars would have been all certified last May. EPA currently has a skeleton staff to certify cars and I'm sure all the USA cars take priority over the German and other non us made cars.

These cars have all been EPA certified now. The sedan and the wagon are both certified. CARB, EPA and Emmissions standards are all completed and signed off.

Pardon my not reading all the pages but what does this mean in regards to retail US deliveries (keys in hand and car goes home).

It means now we can legitimately blame Mercedes since it isn't the EPA and our cars still sit at port. Lol. I imagine the reprogram process is currently going into all the port cars, not sure how long that will take.

I wonder if the software reprogramming will affect performance or fuel economy. They might have to change out window stickers and all. My car is being built Sept 11, hopefully it will have the new software at the build so they don't have to reprogram it.

Won't likely affect 0-60 and a few other specs as emissions standards don't apply at wide open throttle (WOT).
Wouldn't imaging fuel economy would go down much as if anything they're going to reduce the amount of fuel going into the motor under various conditions.
But, who knows. Maybe it wasn't an issue so much with changing the engine/trans mapping as it was programming the ECU with the proper validation software to work with US smog probes and ensure that no one is taking a page from the Volkswagon cheater playbook.
I do know that at least for one of my motorcycles, the low speed and off-idle performance with the US complaint mapping was less than ideal when compared to a Euro or South American spec model.
After going to a dealer and having the emissions system "validated" (I'll leave what that means to your imagination) the bike ran a lot better at low an mid throttle openings.
But that's not likely going to be an option for these cars, at least not in California, where they need to be smog tested all the time.
Maybe one could get a 2nd Euro spec ECU and just swap back in the US ECU before smog testing . . . ?

I hope the engineers who are designing the car do a better job keeping their units straight than the programmers who are doing the software to print the invoice.
Noticed a random use of K or k for kilo, and M for meters as in KM. Someone should send them to the BIPM web site to have a look at proper SI units.
Might have hired a few of the same guys who crashed the Mar Climate Orbiter . . .
