2018 E63S AMG
My driver and front passenger doors have two distinct detents where the door is held.
It takes about as much force to get them moving past these stops as my other cars (well not my Jeep which has no stops at all).
If I were home, I'd do a test with a small spring scale and measure and report on the force.
If it still seems to be an issue when my car finally gets to the States I'll give it a go and report the values.

I went and told my dealer about this because my front doors just won €™t stay open. At first they said it was a known issue, but then at pickup time they insisted it was normal and that my car already had the parts referenced above installed at manufacture. My car was built in May. Is there any way to identify which door checks / lower hinges are installed on my car?
There is a number on top of the lower hinges: 122A7 for the driver €™s side and 118A7 for the right side.

I will ask the MB shop foreman at my dealer about those markings you referenced, however I sincerely doubt they are the updated parts.

Parts are now on order to replace the lower hinges (incorporating the checks). 4-5 days to get them in. Then they need to be painted. All will be done under warranty.
I encourage any one who has this problem to make sure that their dealer replaces the lower door hinges. I think it is a safety issue.

Do you have the paperwork from when your car was in service so I can get this done, it's a safety issue for sure.

My SA told me today that the door hinges are a known issue and a fix for them will happen probably by the spring from MB, when he was updating me on my car. Still waiting on the ABC module to come from Germany, dealer expects to get the part on Monday.

My dealer has attempted to fix this issue on my E300 but without any results, door just shuts in your face. If anyone could please pm or post your service order with updated parts # I would appreciate it.

I already had one fix, that didn't work. They have updated the parts again and it's going in with the GTR comes out. If this fixes it, I'm keeping the car. If it doesn't then she's in re-purchase already.

Just got the hinges replaced today. No effect whats so ever. The door still shuts on you with any incline. The service technician even commented that he did not notice any improvement. This is apparently the most recent hinge update. The service guy stated that there is nothing they can do since this is the latest fix from Mercedes. For the esteemed panel- who do I complain to because this is unacceptable for a car like this. Do I contact MBUSA directly and if so whom do I address this issue to?

I wake up everyday exited to drive my E63.
I take it to groceries, work, take kids to school .. everything.
It is super fun to drive and it makes me happy...
Except.. when I have to open the doors! It frustrate me with all my heart. I feel sometimes just to smash the doors so the dealer would change it! The damn doors don't stay open!
My mom my wife got hurt many times when the door reclosing on them.
I wish there was a fix

Sorry no hope for you. I had the hinges replaced twice (the first time I don't think they really changed them). Second time around they worked slightly for about 2 weeks, now back to no hinges. I thought many times over just returning the car to them just because of this. The fix maybe getting an M5

Heh. I went with a Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo. The door mechanism is amazing. No detentes at all, just smooth motion anywhere along the full open/close arc and the doors just STOP if you let go anywhere in between, including when the car is on my sloped driveway.
#42
Would you say the turismo is as safe in a crash as the e63s?

The solution in the panamera is the way. But still lacks a proper soft close doors that slow the door motion when it approaches the car frame. Even toilet tops do this...

Yeah, this doors are pretty unacceptable in this car segment.

LOLWUT. If you'd like, we can ram into one another and see what happens?
That's true, though in practice hasn't been an issue. I do have the soft close option but the mechanism doesn't "grab" the door and close it until the door is already nearly closed. Like I said though, in practice hasn't been an issue. My kids can close the doors without undue force which I appreciate.
Exactly!

Silly and dumb is assuming that I could somehow be in possession of any knowledge of the crashworthiness of a car that has no publicly available data from the NHTSA, something which you'd know if you checked
EDIT: to apologize and say that when I typed this I didn't connect that you were the poster whose wagon was totaled by your friend. So I understand that the POV of your question is far more personal than it might be to the average Joe. Anyway, no, I have no knowledge of the crashworthiness of the Panamera as neither IIHS nor NHTSA tests or publishes date on these car. I assumed good things when I bought mine.

No, and your sarcasmeter needs calibration.

No hard feelings. I apologize myself if my last comment came off the wrong way. It's just that I checked online myself but didnt find anything so I'd thought to ask. I can see where someone might think I was asking you to crash your car if not knowing what just happened to mine. Wasn't trying to imply anything negative though, I promise. I think my sarcasmeter broke with my car so I guess I was a little sensitive at the time. Lol.
