Heart is set on wagon, but was totally bummed when I found out the 3D Sound system wasn’t available in the wagon. Now I can’t decide if the sound system is worth going w the sedan, or if the system is good enough in the wagon that it’s really a non-issue.

Yes, seriously I’m bummed. The E63 isn’t a Ferrari - where it’s sole purpose is to be a performance car, and the consumer should simply be grateful that it has any stereo system at all. Maybe to you this is a “performance car”, and that’s perfectly fine. To me it would fill the role of a sporty but practical daily driver - and yes I care about having the high end sound system.
My E63s Wagon is my daily driver along with my modified Audi Allroad. I think the stock stereo sounds great as is even with the sport exhaust.
This is my performance car and it is equipped with a iPad mini and UE studio monitor earphones.

Thanks, it really is a sweet little wagon and it has the B&O stereo but the exhaust is no where near the sound of the AMG.
I bought the E63s wagon for its better AWD system and power but I may hang onto the Allroad because it's just a damn good car for the money.
I would never let the quality of the sound system dictate a car purchase. That's 1% of the equation for me. For reference I have the high end sound in my S212 - it's great but I wouldn't care if I didn't have it since the rest of the car is so good. Same would apply for the 213. I drove it and the stock sound didn't seem lack anything to me.
I recommend you buy the car you want sound system. I have an S class with the 3D system. It is unbelievably good. We ordered the E63S sedan with it because of my experience with the S. The E 3D system is almost but not quite as good as the S. Smaller cabin volume and smaller subwoofer in the trunk. The wagon standard Burmester system should be fine. The sound source is critical as well. The S has a CD player so I can listen to original high resolution discs. If you listen to satellite radio the sound is noticeably worse. The iPhone with 256K resolution sounds god in both cars.
Just buy the car if you want a wagon.

i had the 3D system in my S65 coupe and it was really nice. Thanks for the feedback. Although I wish the 3D was an option for the wagon, I won’t let it be a deal breaker.
Honestly the sound systems are so nice I can't imagine it being much better from the factory. Im sure after living with the 3D for a while it would be hard to go back, but after having a gt350 mustang for about a year where rear seat, AC and radio were optional, my wagon is a freaking opulent paradise.
I've had better sound systems in cars. I listened to it quite a while tonight and the bass is not very tight. It takes some getting use to hearing the bass coming from the front of the car vs the rear in conventional sub woofer design. The amps have a little bit of a electronic sound, I actually think the Harmon Kardon sound system in my 2012 E63 Amg wagon sounded a little bit better. I also do miss having the option of being able to play a CD or a DVD. More than likely Benz got rid of that to save on their expense for warranty costs, stuff like people feeding two CD's stuck together and jamming it and that kind of thing. I really need to put some of my high def music on a SD memory card and try that out, probably get a lot better sound this way.
I found a setting in the Audio options - I think it was named something like "Surround Sound" that was not checked/turned on in our wagon. Checking that option improved the sound (in my opinion).
Yep, mine is turned on, does help some. I've played around with the settings a lot. I find having the balance 2 clicks to the right I get a little better imaging and stereo effect. I don't know maybe a JL Audio Sound Processor would help out. It seems like the system needs something. The Sound System in my S550 sounds better, but then again thats a bigger car with a conventional Sub woofer in the back. I may also think about putting a nice tight subwoofer and amp, maybe a kicker or something under the back floor panel.

I dont buy my cars based on the audio system but my RS7 came with the upgrade B&O and that system is incredible. Its not bass thumping ghetto booty shaking but its very crisp and has great acoustics for the car. I can definitely tell the difference when I drive my Edition 1. But like almost all here, the audio is secondary or tertiary in nature.
The main audio track Im interested in is the ....... exhaust
I had the upgraded B&O in my ‘14E63 wagon. It was good. I upgraded w a custom JL subwoofer in the spare tire well. I’m planning on doing an upgraded stereo system. Looking at adding two amps and a dsp and front component speakers and custom subwoofer. I’m sure the system will be better then the upgraded 3D Burmeister.
