well taken care of, no worries.. we had some cars at port for a couple months and they always came in perfect.. I wont say its 100% for the millions of cars at every dealer or vehicle.. but I can honestly say Ive never seen any issue from that itself (sitting there) from port cars..

Destination.. Baltimore for us.. the Vehicle process center there gets them ready for us, adds some port installed options like chrome trims and illuminates starts etc..
luckily IM super close to the port..I just go sometimes and take them when they get released ...dont have to deal with train rails and such..
Brunswick Georgia for southern dealers and Cali has the port in LA..

That’s my timeline anyway. Sedans may be more predictable.

Build Date
I ordered and got my build date which is the 3rd week of August with an estimated delivery date of the end of September. Many options removed for model year 2019 and many added as stand alone options.
Engines are unchanged as are the designations,
ie; the E300 will still be the E300 etc.. Added some great options that are worthwhile.

Sitting at the port for a couple of months is not a good thing - I would very much try to avoid such cars. It's a recipe for paint damage and heat damage to the interior, including a higher chance of squeaks and rattles. On the other hand, plenty of new car smell after the interior fries for a couple of months. Also, hope they applied Cosmoline liberally to steel parts to counter the salty humidity.

Okay...that horror story doesn’t sound great.
Let me ask the question a different way then...if a car is B0 today (5/24) and assuming a very average schedule (no extraordinary delays in the process, etc.), when can one expect it to land at the port in Los Angeles? 2 months from today? Or 2 months from actual production start—which, if it is B0 today, would be 3 weeks from now, making the entire process 2.75 months from today?
Or is the process to build, transport to port in Germany, get on a boat, get to the port LA shorter than 2 months from Day 1 of actual production?

Thanks. But I’m trying to figure out how long the process would be if there were no shortages or hiccups in order to determine how long the car could potentially sit at port simply because Mercedes does not want to release them until September.

the caveat is that even if a car is ordered and built and arrived at port means it could sit a few weeks if it is built early and they are waiting EPA certifications or a specific release date.. most of these cars we are talking about are 1st run 2019's so MB may release them August 1st, August 31st, Sept 1st? I dunno is the honest answer here. Just educated guesses.. I always try and underpromise ..
And correct, they don't all sit indoors all the time at port, but MB and every other brand is in the same boat on that.. MB does a good job of keeping the cars clean and moving a little to keep them "fresh." lol
When the E63's and GTR's sat at port last year for some modifications (software and some hardware)..I was assured they were being cleaned and started and moved to avoid flatspots in tires, bird droppings or anything and battery charges.. we are talking about major car companies that have been doing this for decades they usually get it right (I know there are issues from time to time).

Thanks, Shahul!
I guess my question is if you assume NO EPA or any other delay—is it planned to be 8 weeks from day 1 of actual production to landing in Los Angeles? Or 10 weeks? Or 12?

LA im not sure.. for me I assume about a month from when its built before it arrives at my dealer on cars that are after the 1st batch and "released date" is passed... has to go from factory to port, they sit there a few days getting ship assigned.. loaded..sit a couple days.. then shipping across atlantic is slow.. arrives at baltimore and sits through customs and unpacking.. then VPC processed and inspections.. takes a bit but generally not bad..

Thanks, Shahul. I’ll tell my buddy about 2 months then. I remember it was similar for Porsche. About 4 weeks for East Coast. But West Coast = Panama Canal. Add 4 weeks to go through and up the coast.

I have a 2019 on order - status is B1, build is 6/30/18. Dealer indicated they have not received any information to indicate any delays. Targeting August delivery. Obviously monitoring the status after 6/30 will indicate if that is in fact true.

Congrats! Please keep the online community posted.

I've got a 19 sedan on the way as well, B3 status, prod. date 06/13. Anyone know exactly what B3 means?

If they have to mess with the cars at the port, that's even worse, and there's even more potential for damage.
In general, if Mercedes typically releases in September, then the best strategy is to get an August or later build slot, not an earlier slot. You're unlikely to get your car earlier with an earlier slot, and why take a car that was subject to the harsh elements and who knows what else at the port for a prolonged period of time.
