Anyone Drive the New M5 and E63 S?
Hi all, the reason I ask is that I've read several reviews that put it ahead of the E63 S in terms of performance and handling as well as being a better daily driver. Now what I have seen, in photos only, is that the interior does not look as good as the E63 and the body work is rather bland (my personal opinion of course). I saw one video from South Africa I believe that showed the M5 walking the E63 S but others show the opposite. I have driven the E63 S Estate and I thought it was great and have an order for the sedan but I can't seem to find a dealership that has the new M5 to test drive near me for comparison. On another note I did see where the M5 has grates in front of the intercoolers on either side as well as in the lower valance. I hope that MB comes up with something for our (well yours for now) cars.

I had money an f90 M5. I drove both and ended up canceling my M5 order and my e63s arrives this week. I really disliked the looks of the M5 inside and out. I’ve had 5 M cars prior to this as well. I wouldn’t focus on the straight line races as being your deciding factor. It seems to be a drivers race. They are equally as fast. Competition package will add 20hp to the M5 but I wouldn’t buy comp package anyway as I will tune the e63s and would have ended up tuning the M5. So I see no point to the comp package.

Quickburn7 owned both and now just has the M5---

Both cars have their advantages and disadvantages but are very evenly matched so it all boils down to personal preference.

From experience the M5 is much more comfortable than the E63. Its not even comparable. I would say sport in the E63 is stiffer then sport plus in the M5. Also the transmission is not as easy to live with day to day in the E63 as it is in the M5.
after those two items and the tech where the M5 is much better they are pretty equal. I still miss that E63 noise though... my neighbors do not!

Thanks to all for your responses. I recall reading of your issues with the E63s Quickburn7 with only a few hundred miles on the vehicle. I believe MB bought it back due to the numerous issues correct? Anyway, great to hear that you are happy with your new M5. For me I'm used to a stiffer riding suspension coming from a 2013 C63 with the performance pack (P31) and before that, a 2009 ISF and then a 2012 ISF (much more compliant suspension). When I drove the E63s Estate (the dealership had three) I didn't think it was bad at all. However, it had the standard seats not the sport seats though I don't know if that would make a difference or not. I still have my order in for a 2019 Selenite Grey Metallic sedan and am really looking forward to it. Until then I have my trusty 2002 Toyota Tundra 4x4 extended cab with 2.5" lift 33s and some other stuff.

Both cars are great and you really cannot go wrong. The M5 is a performance and handling beast but is very subdued in its styling, quiet, and comfortable until you step on it. The E63 does not handle as well but its a mean looking, sounding and its easy to just step on it in the city and enjoy the torque between stop lights. The M5 requires room as the fun does not start until 5K rpm.
Yeah I had issues with the E63s until they bought it back which was unfortunate but a pretty great car while it worked and as I am sure you read most owners do not have issues.

Geeze you have quite the collection of autos Quickburn7! I only have one performance vehicle at a time as my garage is limited to two spaces and my wife has one (though our drive way can hold four). Again thanks for your honest evaluation of both and I agree that both are great and one can't go wrong with either umm, as long as a bunch of stuff doesn't starts breaking.

Yep and all those magazines that have the BMW beating the E63S by a tenth could have the same result... its that close but the 300 plus lbs on the E63S should have hurt it further and it just didnt.
