Another buyback/lemon? Options?
So I have seem to run into the same gremlins as several other forum members. Several CELs and several times I have been kicked into limp mode at highway speeds. On a few occasions the car wouldn't restart for some time. Here is where I am unsure on next best steps. I gave the car to the dealer, they had it for 20 days plus a few prior days during this time they could never reproduce the errors but documented all the codes thrown. 20+ days is bringing me close to the 30 days for a lemon. I picked up the car last night and with in 40 miles I had the same issues. Called MB customer care, called dealership. My question is there any benefit of letting it become a lemon vs a buyback? or does it all amount to the same thing?

You may be talking about some of my gremlins - dealer has had the car for more than a week after it showed a CEL and i was just notified they are going to replace the injectors.
I believe it will be essentially the same, with lemon being the more difficult route. I had a 08 RR Supercharged HSE that was lemoned and had to jump through many hoops showing the up to date payments etc.... At the end of the day i had everything but tires and fuel reimbursed. A buyback would probably be the preferred route. |

Rich.AMG; I have a 2018 E63s with only 6000km, love it but engine stop in trafic and engine do not restart. I’ve been in this very bad and dangerous situation now for the second time. Dealer want to fix the issue. Now I will have to send the car to dealers for days again, they told me if happen again they will buy it back and give me a brand new one before it becomes a lemon. Oh and sometimes when starting it the engine go up the 5,000 rpm for few seconds and go back down just below 1,000 rpm... |
Rich i had that happen to me one time and have been unable to replicate it. Took it right to the dealer and they couldnt find any codes stored or any other issues.
Good luck - i know i havent had any with mine. |
am i the only one who thinks this is absolutely insane on a brand new $120k car?

Far from the only one my friend. This wagon has been my dream car for YEARS. Just got a message they are going to be holding onto my car at the dealer while they conduct more tests.
Counting down the days for the Lemon Law process..... |
Going to the dealer tomorrow to sent the car, they said it can be related to the eco green button... I hope they will fix it. I will keep you posted, it’s sad I really love the car. In canada our dollars exange is lower so this beauty cost me 158,000$ and two road assistance. |
Mine is also back at dealer and I made the call to MB USA and waiting for a case manager to call me back. They have it at the dealer and so far 3 days later not a peep out of them. Only a handful of days left before it hits 30.

Hope Benz dealers find our problems Thanks, but doubtful. They had it 20 days the second time and came up empty. Only reason I got it back was because I took it back, and as soon as I did, same issues. I am just glad I didnt start spending on upgrades just yet. |

Looks at BMW's new M5's; they had a fuel pump issue that literally affected every M5 in less than 1000 miles.Worst thing, the engine could die on the highway potentially creating a hazardous situation. A software fix solved that. In case of this issue, it may be a hardware fix. Make sure MB takes care of you but it's not the end of the world... |

Is it annoying? Yes is it insane... not at all |

Absolutely insane? Don't think so. While it's not cool to have engine issues like that and AMG should be more on top of it, these are cars that push the performance envelope. This is also more common as the price of cars increases, not the other way around (smaller production volume and performance cars).

I'd be interested to see someone compile a registry of cars with problems and sort them by build date. It seems like problems have become less frequent as the year went on. Mine was built in April and I've put 3k miles on it going on a couple road trips without a single hiccup of any kind. It stands to reason that if the cars are getting less buggy that they figured out where the bugs were and have been reducing them with mid-year production updates.

At least BMW delivered a fix ...
Point is stuff happens. The more pervasive the failure, the easier to track down and fix it. Random and rare issues may take more time. I am not excusing MB and would expect better escalation and communications process but am also not calling for a buyback if the CEL comes on. I am commenting on posts here, not the thread starter... |
So I just got the car back. The current fix was a new valve body, but there is also "to many error codes to list"
All under warranty so that's fine but scary that cost was close to 6000 |
I do hope this is THE fix. |
Wonder what would have happened if you had a tune? Oh, sorry, that tune probably caused all this, no warranty for you . . .
I'd really like to get a tune, but still apprehensive because of the worry that some factory issue like this one will be blamed on the tune as an excuse not cover the repairs. |

I will post up the full details when I get a chance to scan them
