900hp DME/Pureturbo only runs 10.8
Is MB continuing its tradition of making the tuning limitations worse with each successive platform? A “stage 3 900” car only running 10.8 is even worse than the already dismal W212.

first time at track with it. Ah....and it rained several times. You need to chill on this amg hating. It's just for fun bud. Your commentary is getting a little stale. It's time to accept merc is not building the fastest drag cars. I'm ok with it. Why arent you?

Stale maybe, but I’m not happy with the direction AMG went and I’ll continue to voice it in the hopes that AMG listens. They’ve lost quite a few loyalists and I’m one of them so until I get banned for no longer being a fanboy, you’re stuck with me.

can we just confirm something real quick here?
you're voicing your frustrating about a luxury sedan (and/or wagon) ------ that basically gives you the equivalent of a hot stone massage while simultaneously cooling your junk; is semi-autonomous above 20mph and fully autonomous below; can fit 5 adults including luggage; is the physical automotive manifestation of understatement, sophistication, and class; runs the ****ing NÜRBURGRING(!) in less time than a Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 (in s t o c k form -- as a w a g o n ); and will gladly accommodate your wife/kids/mother/boss/coworkers/etc. without any of them feeling physically or psychologically uncomfortable ------ "ONLY" running a 10.8 in the 1/4 mile?
please don't be mad. just having some fun.
but seriously... what a time to be alive.

It has nothing to do with anyone’s car in particular and I sincerely apologize because I now realize that inadvertently came off that way. It’s a complaint about how MB/AMG has done everything they can to limit the potential of these cars the further you move away from stock. That bothers me. A car of this mod/power/investment level should be significantly quicker and faster in the 1/4mile.

This is an interesting view. It seems to imply you believe MB / AMG should consider (or is considering) the available headroom above stock form in their design / build. I'm specifically referring to the comment that they're purposefully limiting the potential of the cars.
However, another way to view this is that they are doing everything they can to extract maximum performance from their design / build from the factory. In some ways, I respect that more. When you buy one of these cars, you're already buying a tremendous amount of engineering focused solely on finding close to the edge of performance for what is available, and what is available is based on a balance of weight / emissions / power / etc.
I think I respect the willingness to find that boundary and spec the cars near that boundary. It's not an easy decision as a mass market company to do that I'm sure.

it’s not about potential of car. 213 can’t go fast doesn’t matter of how many hp it shows on dyno. Until tuners won’t be able to remap transmission, all these horsepower is useless.
Have a look at cls63 st1 RL result , car couldn’t reach that numbers until trans wasn’t remapped. Same story was with 212. TCU limits amount of torque that car has to it’s factory number.

These track performance numbers should be tune only, not full turbo replacement. As dav461 already mentioned, AMGs are now dyno queens that make big hp numbers on paper that they don’t live up to in the real world.

AMG has become the Toyota Supra of our generation. Awesome dyno numbers, cannot put the power down on the track (albeit for very very different reasons). We are now becoming dyno queens with awesome highway race winners.
However I for one cannot honestly say I mind that much. I will not be swapping out turbos on these cars (won't say never, that word seems to cause me to do things....). It seems MB is allowing the max for the existing drivetrains and not much more than that. In the case of the W213, it is mid 10s, was high 10s in the W212. So there is a little improvement there.
The cars that have done better dragstrip times) have other forms of drivetrains like RWD (eg F10 M5), automatic with TC (RS7), much lighter vehicle overall (RS3) etc etc.
In a sense you win some and lose some. You want all out consistent drag timeslips with luxury, RS3 would be your best bet. Fastest straight line with comfort, choose between the M5 or RS7, best highway pulls the AMG. What a time to be alive! Luxo barges running 10s and outrunning purpose built sports cars (amd not just in a straight line)

2014 E63s amg 4matic, 2009 C63, 2006 E55 AMG , 2001.5 AUDI S4 stg 3+ w/meth
or it should at least run what a stock turbo tuned RS7 runs around 10.3/134
its seriously sad that a bigger turbo upgraded W213 E63s still cant compete with stock turbo tuned last generation RS7's and M5's

Do you think the issue come from the tune? Renntech can do 10.436 sec after turbo upgrade.DME never post the 1/4 time. Have you ever try the 60-130mph or 100-200km/h time? I have DME Stage 2 tune with downpipe. Tuner claimed their stage 2 tune can do 6.0~6.2 from 100-200km/h, but the best result I have is 6.75.

the problem is, that car was not just a tune, it was a stage 3, full pureturbo swap..... so should be running close to what a M5 with pureturbo swap would run i.e. at least low 10s, but more importantly the trap should be 137-140, not 128 (the older W212 E63 already traps that on stock turbo tuned)
or it should at least run what a stock turbo tuned RS7 runs around 10.3/134

not bad improvement for 3500 bucks

but even if it was only 3500 to get it on your car, 10.8/128 still sucks for upgraded turbo, as its slower or equal to tune only w213

its not 3500 for the DME Tuning Stage 3 package , you are quoting just one piece of hardware.... the same upgrade was available for the w212 for 2500, but once installed and tuned and necessary supporting upgrades the quote from precision tuning or DME is about 15k -20K installed, depending on what level cooling kit you add
but even if it was only 3500 to get it on your car, 10.8/128 still sucks, as its slower or equal to tune only w213

I dont think it sucks at all. My W213 was tune only and best I ran was 11.0 at 126. I ran this one on a rainy night and dont know optimal shift points yet. Can maybe pick a tenth and 1-2 mph. But yeah, if you are looking for the fastest drag car from Germany, stay away from amg....you guys have been beating the nuts off that horse for over a year now.

now add about 10hrs of labor for shop install quote, unless you are installing yourself (most people arent)
so about 10K to run about the same as a 2.5K tune

I know exactly what I paid, and its 3500 more than a dp/tune car. I also know the w212 quite well.
