Soft close doors
 

I really don't know, but it is one of the best features to have, I wish they will do like the Aston's that wherever you open the door the door stays put.

Anything is possible the problem is at what cost? I suspect they'd get you for like 2 grand or so if you tried to have the dealer do the soft close doors. Great option, I nearly missed getting them on my car and realized it after I'd ordered the car and told the dealer to include them and the air balance package, for cheap money i like having that too. The only option I regret not getting on my car is the night package. With the red color of my car it would have looked better with the chrome strips blacked out. For 700 bucks it was a no brainer, but there is so much to think about when you order a car and it is easy to forget stuff unless you have a really detailed salesman.

Check with the dealer, thats about the only way your gonna find out, if not them a good independent mercedes shop might be able to do it cheaper if they got the right parts. The main question would be is the wiring already present and just a question of plugging the solenoids into a plug the is left in the doors unused. If so probably just a question of getting four door actuator units and removing the door panels and bolting them in and plugging them in, if the wiring is not there I could imagine it begin really cost prohibitive. The problem is that most service advisors are not gonna know the answer to this question but perhaps if they consulted with MB Engineering they could get the right answer. I have the feeling though it could be like the issue I have with my 2015 mercedes S550 not having the Surround view feature. It was only a 900 dollar option and I sure wish my car had that, I've taken out the front spoiler once already from a curb too high. Retrofitting it is not an option, I checked with 3 dealers already. I bought the car used, so I had to take what the car had on it.

Retrofits are always significantly more expensive than the factory option. You're buying all brand new parts, wiring, and paying for labor. The base price for the car includes all the standard parts, and you pay on the difference between the base part and the option.

I ordered my car and opted for the soft close doors. I thought it would be great to have because some cars require extra push or pull on the doors to shut. My E63S is not one of those cars LOL. It shuts quite easily and I barely have to push or pull the door for it to shut. In fact, I would intentionally be extra gentle with the pushing or pulling of the door so that the soft close would do the rest but half the time, the door would fully shut anyway. I don't know if I would bother with the option if I would have to do it all over again because 99% of the time, it never gets used. Just my experience.

I have a car for about a month and it has soft close doors, now I can't close doors at 1st attempt on different cars that don't have soft close doors. LOL

I don't know how to classify that "+" or "-" but it is totally weird.

Night package is easy to mimic. Go to any wrap shop around you. Usually 100-150 bucks too. Except the exhaust pipes, those will cost more to paint.

Thank you. I was thinking the same, that most times doors will get slammed anyways, based on your experience I will not add soft close doors to my 2019 E53 build.

So I take it that the soft close door option isn't implemented like the old S class with double glazed windows.

Doubt it - they build the car with the exact requirements for your order no surplus wiring, mechanics in the door etc.

Due to a misunderstanding mine came without ventilated seats - I was prepared to pay to have them retrofitted - was told that the wiring, switches are a problem to retrofit.

My car is pretty well specified and I looked at the soft close doors but could not see the point. I get in and pull the door closed or do I save energy and only partly close it so it can close itself???

While checking out the panamera sport turismo that appears to be one of porsches selling points. Dealer made a point of showing us all that the door can be opened to any position and stays put.
Simple idea, not sure why all cars don't have this common sense feature/design.

What is the advantage of that (serious question)?

I just checked my doors and they notch in 3 positions & cannot imagine why I would need anything diffferent.

I have 3 AMG's with Soft Close doors. First is an S65 with the infinity hinge system. Best hinge design ever put on a car, of course MB discontinued that feature. The Soft Close system actuates about 90% of the time when a door is closed on the S65. I have an E63S with the worst 3 notch hinges I ever encountered on a car. The biggest issue is to prevent the door from closing on my leg when getting in the car. I think the Soft Close actuated maybe twice in 10 months. I have a new SL65 with one of the best sets of 3 notch hinges. They work well even on slopes or side tilts. The Soft Close system actuates about 75% of the time a door is closed on the SL.
In summary, were I ordering another E63S I would still get the Soft Close but If I saw one without it I would not miss it.
