So historically, how long after CARB certification do they release the vehicles for sale?

Man, we are really bringing up the rear with the E63. So according to the interwebs, these are the other cars with this engine:
  • Mercedes-AMG C63 and C63 S
  • Mercedes-AMG E63 and E63 S
  • Mercedes-AMG S63
  • Mercedes-AMG GLC63 and GLC63 S
  • Mercedes-AMG GT63 and GT63 S 4-Door
  • Aston Martin DB11 V8
  • Aston Martin Vantage
I think almost everything on this list is certified except for the E63 - so suggests that the hold-up is not with some emissions issue. Likely someone just put us at the end of the line.

Does the SL63 have the same engine as the E63?

Well, several of the 43/63/65 AMGs that have been certified were certified in September (and some in August I think) with release dates predicted in November, so not sure if that is an accurate measure of how it has been done in the past.

Nope. It’s interesting—it’s actually the old 5.5L biturbo V8.

From your lips to God's (or MBUSA's) ears! Out of sheer boredom, I was even trolling through inventories at San Diego dealerships for Audi, Maserati and Aston Martin. Plus I was looking into renting a car for the next couple of months if I really got desperate since I have been car-less since June (luckily I only live less than a 1.5 miles away from work, but still!),

Same here...I was thinking about renting a car too. I feel terrible that I bought my son a brand new 2018 vehicle for his 16th birthday in June, and I have been driving it daily since I was told that I would be taking possession of my vehicle in August. I feel that our gift to him is tainted since I now have 5000 miles on his "brand new" birthday present. My only issue with the dealership is that they convinced me to trade in my previously owned 2015 Audi A7 TDI in June so that I could get a greater trade in value to put toward the E53 purchase. I should have used my better judgement and kept the Audi until I was ready to receive the E53, even if I lost a thousand or two in trade in.

Eh...hindsight is 20/20 on the trade in thing. You made a decision at the time that objectively made sense, but circumstances later unfolded beyond your control that now have you regretting it. At least the E53 is scheduled to hit dealers before the E63. Lord knows when my wagon will be in my parking spot. Im hoping at least a year before the Apocalypse.

Seems like they’ve moved back a bit. It’s also possible that I’m just delirious at this point.

yeah it looks like they moved all the 43/53/63s to start being released in November whereas before October looked to be the release date for some of them.

trying to figure out if the S560 falls under late October or early November. I’m about to pull out a ruler and divide the Q4 bar into 13 weeks!

I went and drove the M5 yesterday. This will be my first AMG, I've had M cars prior and loved them. The M5 drove very well, fast, tight and an amazing interior. Exterior is just ok, looks like a boring 5 series. I want a wagon and BMW is too stubborn to bring them here so I'm waiting...

And Bing-o was his name-o.

The M5 doesn’t stand out to me physically. I mean, it’s one thing if there was an M5 Wagon.

E63 AMG Estate
I went back and forth between the M5 and the E63, the M5 was a pretty perfect saloon, it did everything well but there were two issues for me:

1. It did everything well but nothing stood out - it’s acceleration was fast but less torquey so didn’t feel the same pull as the E63. It had a good exhaust but nowhere near the sound of the E63. It had a nice interior but both my wife and I thought it didn’t look as good as the E63. The outside was nice but didn’t look much different to a normal 5 series.

2. No Estate/Wagon and I need that!

There was 2 things that the M5 did blow the E63 out of the water on:

1. Was the tech, the idrive is akin to an iPhone to me - intuitive and idiot proof whereas the Mercedes system was a faff.

2. Was the ride quality in comfort, much softer in the M5

My wife wanted the M5 actually because of the ride comfort but I knew the boot space would be an issue. Plus emotionally I had fallen in love with the E63.

If Mercedes want to make the perfect car, for me they improve the ride comfort in ‘comfort’ and hopefully that MBUX will be good and easy to use and then I don’t think it would have a fault then. But when is anything ‘perfect’?

CARB certification has no bearing on these cars in the US...and even EPA certification isn't having any bearing. Last year the E63 was certified in June/July and didn't go on sale until October, some cars sat at the port for 4+ months. It's all part of their marketing plan. And the reason the 63 models get certified later is that Mercedes submits them for certification later since they don't plan on selling them until late in the year anyway. Might as well interpret the shape of clouds above you if you're looking to emissions certification agencies for clues on release times.

I really don’t understand this marketing strategy, for the S560 at least. It was released last year, this isn’t some big unveiling that they need to build hype for- they’re just pissing people off. GIVE ME MY CAR!!
