How come the AMG GTR had a new certification when that car / engine was certified last year?
https://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/onroad...4d0_u3-125.pdf
So there may have just been a software revision for the GTR engine they just wanted to get cleared.

I could be wrong about certification frequency for Canada, but AFAIK a manufacturer doesn't have to resubmit a car for US emissions unless there is a substantial or meaningful change to an drive-train. Now, given the post-Dieselgate paranoia among car makers there IS the option to resubmit a car for certification whenever they want if they are worried that a modification (software update) made a meaningful change that would get them in trouble if they were audited or investigated. Basically, they don't HAVE to recert an identical drivetrain that was certified previously, but they can if they just want to protect themselves from fines or litigation.
So there may have just been a software revision for the GTR engine they just wanted to get cleared.

I spoke to a MBUSA person from Atlanta about a month ago and he said everything is approved, its marketing driven now.

*Worst Marketing Campaign Ever*
P.S. Sales and Marketing have afforded me the luxury of purchasing an AMG.

Since we’re just waiting around with nothing better to do...who’s taking the over / under at 4 weeks until our 2019s are releases to dealers?
I’m cautiously (or foolishly?) optimistic and will take the under.

We are not going to get these cars until after the new year. Sad to say it. I kind of am over it. I'll just drive the Ferrari to work every day. It has a hatchback and you can fit lots of stuff in it. Que small violin.

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
Got me debating on whether to wait for the E53 AMG Cabriolet or just go with a in stock E450 Cabriolet now. A lot less complexity to the E450 and 10 grand lower price. The TT V6 is a good power trans. 429 HP vs 362 HP, hmmmm.

Not the same but after driving a 2019 G550 last weekend with the AMG exhaust I can't see a reason to buy the G63 over the G550 to replace my wife's Range Rover when the time comes, it sounded every bit as mean as the 2018 G63 and will probably end up starting $30-40k less. The main obstacle I see is that it is apparently a LOT harder to get a 550 allocation than it is a 63.

All engine families need a new EO every year. The E63 S is in a family that has not been certified yet.

go fast grocery getter wagon
It should be .... as the letter was originated from MBUSA (as one of the member here had posted a pic of the letter of notification) ... (only in US though). As for Canada, I cannot recall anyone here had gotten anything from MB Canada.

So I emailed my GM with a loaded WTF kinda email. Is there something wrong with the cars, etc. He replied immediately asking if he could call me in a bit. He called me on his ride home and we had a good 20 minute conversation. He was talking about all the extra testing they do at the VPC to meet new global emmisions and fuel economy standards. Saying it’s very extensive. If he said fuel economy once he said it a hundred times. He mentioned software and DieselGate.
Long story short, after 20 minutes on the phone I’m sure he knows more than he’s letting on. It seems there may be a software and/or MPG claim issue.
I’m certain he called instead of replying to my email to make sure nothing was in black and white, and waited until he was in his car away from prying ears.
Anyway....he said mid to late December.
Please refer to thread starting chart. LOL

Right. They build the cars in a state-of-the-art factory in German, then ship them over to some prefab building in the middle of a port somewhere next to a Tim Horton's or a Maryland crab shack in order to do all sorts of "special" testing on them. What a line! That said, totally consistent with the story they gave my SA who also gave me a similar song and dance about dieselgate, MPGs and repeatedly mentioned flashing the software in order to meet MPG standards. So obviously someone decided that sounded like the best explanation instead of "we have a problem with this engine on the E63s." The thread must go on!

The E63 M177 engine is also found in the S63 - same exact engine with same HP rating (more torque in the S63), same twin scroll turbos (unlike the C63 and GLC63), same exhaust manifolds (the cars sound identical from the outside), and the same cylinder deactivation system. Apparently, the MY19 S63 was released earlier this month, so I highly doubt engine problems are the culprit here IMO.

Yes, I made that point earlier in the thread - that other cars with the same engine have been released. But there could be some application to the E63 - even if it is a fuel efficiency issue - versus a emission one. All I know is that the car hasn't been released and more than one MB SAs is blaming it on some engine certification issue having to do with...the engine. So that sounds like......an engine issue to me. Whether it is software or something else.......
