Depreciation

that is until all of these recent 2018 AMG 63 issues... cars that cost that much should not have so many issues resulting is several buy backs and lemons (yes i know every luxury car company is plagued with issues)... not even the new cars are safe!

Never ever buy these cars during the first model year. Monitor the forums, and buy them only when the problems subside.

2020 Audi R8 V10, 2016 AMG GTS, 2018 E63S Edition 1, 2018 Porsche GTS Cab, 2012 C63 BS
I have never seen a thread titled "my car has no problems !!!!!!" LOL
Lets see how many first year Benzes Ive had with no problems:
2000 E55 (W210)
2003 E55 (W211)
2010 E63 (W212 M156)
2012 CLS63 (W218)
2012 E63 Wagon (W212 M15&)
2012 C63 BS (W204)
2013 SL63 (fawk I forgot the chassis LOL)
2016 AMG GTS (forgot this too)
2017 C63S (W205)
2018 E63S (W213)
I have had other AMG's but they were year two's.
But lets talk about other first year cars Ive had with no issues:
2014 Jag F Type R
2014 Audi RS7
2017 Audi R8
2013 BMW M6
2013 BMW M5
2007 Porsche Turbo
2014 Porsche Turbo S
2013 Porsche C4S 991.1
2015 Lamborghini Huracan
Now ill disclaim that I dont keep my cars that long but I do keep almost all of them beyond a time period of failure that most have read up here (past 8 months)
Every forum one goes to you will see complaints and buybacks which I dont discount but the first year rule of a new chassis doesnt apply (to me at least)

Or realize that forums are a microcosm of the reality of first year problems and understand that bad news always gets posted while proper operating units are the norm.

2022 Mercedes EQS 580
Some data was published this week by iseecars.com which shows the average days to sell a used 911 is 67.5 days. The 911 is the highest value model the source analyzed. The E63 doesn't get split out from the E-class, but the 911 gives you a clue about resale time for $100k+ cars.
This also explains the large spread between trade-in and end-customer sales price.

BMW 550i M- Sport; '19 E63s or '19 M5??
Buy this car or the f90 M5 1-year used for $80-85k. It will probably even have PPF, Tint, etc. added.
There is no escape route from losses through purchase or leasing new. Just like hookers and cigars--because you can and want to (not that I ever have!)

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
Yep, best advice about depreciation is forget about it and enjoy the car. I've gone both routes on my 2012 that I sold a year ago I bought used 1 year old for 75K and sold for 45K 4 years later, not a bad deal, but the car was not the colors or exact options I wanted. The new 2018 has everything exactly how I want it, bought it new so more deprecation but the car is exactly what I want.

Relatively speaking if you don't care about exact options and don't mind someone having driven your car and don't care about a somewhat used feel... buy a used car
if you are going to worsen your anxiety about all of the above then buy new and realize that's the price to have exactly what you pine for.
for all the guys that are now getting into a 2014 e63S.... awesome... they're asking all the right questions about a used car ... and express similar worries. Since I had mine new in 2014 I've been enjoying the crap out of it for 4 years, no regrets.
Oh and try to incorporate so you can write chit off

Agreed. After all, we are talking about a car with some of the worst depreciation of any vehicle in the market (new or used). If someone is that worried about depreciation, an AMG is a horrible choice to begin with.

BUT, depending on what the next generation of the same car looks like, your car will look very old very fast. Think Volvo for example - went from old, boxy, ugly and practical to sleek, stylish and hip with "stay at home mom" crew in 2 years.

This is one of the oldest tricks in the book - buy the last model year and usually most problems are resolved.

Worth the Risk
You don't have to wait for the last model year. Just stay away from the first couple of years, and monitor what's going on with the car. By the end of the 2nd year, recalls and TSBs typically subside, and serious issues are exposed and fixed. If there are still a lot of reports of issues well into the second year of production, either wait even further than the 3rd year, or look at another car which is less problematic. All this is easier to do if you own your current car. If leasing, you are forced to get another car at a particular time, so it's harder to control things.

The 2018 though is not the first model year, there was a 2017 in Europe so the car is pretty well tested, I dunno is does make you wonder if this check engine light issue is something to do with he Gasoline in the USA. I don't recall ever hearing about the check engine light issue with Euro cars.
