My E63 Wagon buyback

I ordered my car approximately one year ago after searching for a configurable allocation. Once I decided on the options the car was ordered and the wait began. After a delay due to a brake parts issue the car was delivered the middle of February 2018.

My car had its first CEL at almost 2000 miles in May. The dealer was accommodating and provided a loaner car. After three weeks the car was ready for pickup. I saw a few injectors and bunch of tests on the paperwork. Car ran great and I was happy.

The second CEL happened in the middle of July at 3000 miles. Same routine at the dealer. Pretty much the same repair procedure. The car was down for another 3 weeks. A case with AMG was opened by the dealer the first time the car was in for repairs.

The third episode began almost immediately after picking up the car the second week of August. I had already been in contact with MBZ corporate after the first CEL so I reached out to the same people and voiced my desire to rid myself of this problem.

MBZ quickly agreed to my buyback request and moved the process along fairly quickly. Total time from them agreeing to the buyback to today was around one month. They were very professional and reasonably fair with me.

The agreement was basically all monies paid minus $1/ mike for the 3000 miles. This included any deposits, taxes and payments made by me. The only thing I wasn't happy about was their unwillingness to reimburse for the Ceramic coat and Ceramic window tint. I removed a few accessories that I could and will list them here for sale.

All in all this wasn't a horrible experience. I was put through a lot worse ten years ago when Lemon Law'ing a Lexus. I could have probably negotiated more on the miles but overall I'm happy.

Bummer that you had to go through this.

My CEL returned today after I reset it this weekend. Will check the codes when I get home today. Previous codes were generic misfire and misfires detected on cylinders 1 and 6. Hopeful that Mercedes will figure out a resolution for this issue soon as it does seem to be affecting a growing list of folks.

I would recommend the obvious and pushing on MBZ to see what they can do for you. This may have a negative effect on future desirability of the model. I miss the car a lot but wasn't willingly deal with the down time. Best of luck.

New model, new pricing for sure---- is the engine the M157? I dont really know much about the G class as its never been on my radar??

You can get a pretty good deal on an 18- the inventory is stout.

What kind of discounts have you heard on an '18? Most locally are at MSRP around $150K

Actually i just did some fact checking and even the 18's are close to msrp depending on supply. Keyes European in Van Nuys, CA has 79 on the ground LOL--- they will probably do 3-4k off

I heard 12% a few months ago but then the 19's got held up and the 18 prices went back up. I'm patient and probably would be happier with the 18 due to the "last of" deal. I'm an air cooled guy for the same reason.

Jeeze your wagon looks so nice. I'm sorry for the issues you've had. Makes me wonder if I'm on borrowed time as my wagon has about 1300 miles on it with, so far, no issues. Such a nice machine as the E63s in both guises are it's just sad that there have been issues that can't seem to be resolved such as this. I wish you the best going forward in whatever vehicle you decide to purchase. And I hope that Mercedes can finally get this vehicle to the reliability stage that my previous C63 AMG was at.

The first issue happened at 2000 miles so why did they charge you for 3000 miles?

$1 per mile? I would laugh in their face RUDELY. The max I would agree to is 0.25 per mile which is the lease cost. If they wanted to debate further I'd bill them from day 1 of issues for all time spent dealing with the issues.

I suppose depending how long you had it etc would be a factor but for me if this happens with my lease they better just let me walk away and another reason I always put $0 down not a penny. I will put down 10 MSD though that they have to refund.

.
The rumor is that the reason for 2019 E63 is hold at VPC is because they fixing the above problem. To many of the 18 had that issue.

What?

What exactly is the problem—and why wouldn’t it just have gotten fixed at the factory versus reproducing the issue and then fixing it at the VPC?

Again, is just a rumor but if is real, Is more convenient for them to put them thru production and fix it at VPC, plus some time the parts are back ordered. Logistic, make sense to have the repair done at VPC and you'll be surprise to see how well is MB VPC equipped: body shop, paint shop...everything.

Seems odd that there's no further detail on what is causing the issue if this is the reason for the hold up, especially since there are cars in dealerships right now for repair. On the face of it, sounds like another "we have no idea what the real reason is so we're just going to say something that sounds convincing" - sort of like:

"US EPA emissions!"
"European emission testing!"
"Need to get high volume cars out first!"
"Fixing a 2018 recurring issue with CELs"

etc.

The 2019 G63 AMG has the same M177 engine as the W213 E63 AMG, thus would share the same risks. 2018 G63 Model has the old 5.5L twin turbo M157 engine.

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
I have not heard anything about if the S63 AMG's are affected or for that matter even the 2018 S560's which have a detuned version of the E63 AMG 4.0 motor with just 463 HP. Nothing on the forums to indicate anyone with either one of these cars has had this check engine light issue.
