Apple CarPlay and HUD
Hi guys,
Last week I changed from my Galaxy S8 to the new iPhone XS Max. I was really impressed with how much better the Apple integration is with the car, as opposed to the Android Auto. In particular, Waze is far superior. Big HD map and much less buggy voice commands. Android would frequently refuse voice commands on Waze since I was driving?? Anyway, when I was using Android Waze, my NAV directions would show in the HUD. Now with Apple, I am not seeing any navigation prompts in the HUD. The HUD settings are the same so it is not me. Anyone with any experience or thoughts? I would like this to show if possible. Thanks

Wow I didn't even know anything like that would show up on HUD, then again I almost never use that, but I'll have to try that, then again I use a iPhone 6 so it just might not work with the Apple like you said.

Of course I can zoom in and out. Just wondering if anyone else can see the directions in the Heads Up Display. Waze worked there with Android Auto. Hard to believe that with the superior Apple integration, the HUD does not show directions.

It may just be that Waze hasn't implemented the code for HUD integration yet. They came up with the Waze carplay integration the week before ios12 launched and are still iterating with updates.

Hope so! I like to keep the media info on the display. With heads up, I am comfortable doing that when traveling in areas I am unfamiliar with.

I can't even get Waze to come up on the apple car play let alone on the HUD. I went to settings in my phone and made sure the background app refresh was on for Waze and then went to privacy and made sure that was correct for Waze. I don't what else to try. I opened the Waze app when the Car Play was up on the cars screen and nothing happens. Not sure what else to try, maybe it's because I'm running a iPhone 6 plus?

Someone mentioned ios12 supports Waze and Car Play. Is 12 compatible on the 6? If so, maybe try it? Or go get the XS Max! Great phone.

Yes. One of my daughters has a 6 and it is running 12.
I have a 7+ running 12 and all apps updated. Just checked now that my car has been returned to me and presto, Waze was now showing in Apple Car Play.
I was able to zoom the display. Just sitting in the driveway playing with it so can't opine yet on whether anything shows up in the HUD.

aww, I'll try that I think I can upgrade to 12, I'll see if I can load that now. That must be the trick. Thanks, ya I'm due for a phone I may get a Max, heard they are good.

Google maps works without IOS12. Had that all along. I went to load IOS12 so I could use ways in car play and don't have enough memory left in my phone, I've just got the 16 gig model and am currently using 15 gig, need an extra gig. Google maps definitely does not display in the HUD, tried that tonight. I very rarely use the HUD, not crazy about it and find it distracting.

None of Apple Car Plays navigation apps, including their own native Apple Maps will display any information in the HUD.
Yes, you need IOS12 for Waze and google Maps to work in Apple carplay. Like I said though, all three only display in the right hand 12.3" display. Both WAZE and Google Maps work brilliantly in carplay. I put 1000 miles on last week, using both extensively. Very pleased with that upgrade. Would be amazing to get them to work in the HUD as well.

It is the 5th item down the screen on my phone under General, right below Handoff.
Once you tap CarPlay it then has a screen that shows the cars that have been added to CarPlay. In my case, only MB Infotainment 93585 is listed under My Car.
Tap that and you can see all the apps currently set up in CarPlay. Standard hold and then drag re-arrangement process.

Thanks, ya I guess I do need the IOS 12 upgrade, I don't see waze anywhere, I think the old 11 does not allow 3rd party apps or something like that. Damm, maybe tie for at least a 32 gig IPHONE

i have S8 and Waze works fine on the main screen but it is not showing up on HUD! Do you remember if you had to enable something to make it work with s8 ?
