I have a coolant leak

Hey everyone,

I noticed a pink puddle of coolant under my car, probably a half a cup or so. It was located more towards the rear of the engine. Has anyone else had or heard of a coolant leak issue?
Service appointment is already set up...

Thanks!
Bueller

You probably took a rock in the radiator. I just had this fixed last week!

EDIT: I just reread your post, and you mentioned the puddle is more towards the rear of the engine! In that case, it may not be a puncture of the radiator then?

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
Or one of the intercoolers. Hopefully not either the Radiator or the intercoolers because if this was pebble that hit either you won't be covered under warranty as thats road hazard. If you don't have them already you may want to consider the Zunsport aftermarket protectors.

Thank you for the replies. I do have the Zunsport already installed, so it should not be a puncture in the radiator or intercooler. But you never know.

The puddle was more towards the rear of the engine so I’m thinking there’s a leaking hose somewhere. I was wondering whether this was a known problem.

2018 E63S,
i just woke up this morning to a pool of coolant on my garage floor as well. Tech just sent me a pic of it being a rock hit to the radiator (center cooler). No idea how much this costs, but the frequency at which this happens on this car seems to be at least a few standard deviations from normal. Makes me want to sell the car.

Just buy Zunsport grills and forget about that.

No reason to save $350 and then have a headache with leaking radiators

Zunsport grills minimize the risk but do not eliminate the problem - this is something MB should definitely consider further. That being said, I do agree with you - minimizing the risk is the right thing to do.

I had this happen recently to me recently. Cost $1900 for parts and labor. My dealer got MBrace to pay for half of it since the car is so new. They also threw in the change in the 2K differential oil for free. Still cost $900 though!

I had the same issue with my 2015 E63s recently and all the coolant leaked 10 mins after I shut off the engine. No clue why the hose burst. Anyone know what material the hoses are? Must be the cold temperatures outside causing the burst perhaps. And Mercedes said this is not covered under warranty. Car is still in the shop.

What did you have to do to get the dealer to pay half?
