Did the 2018 have it? Was it even an option for 2019?

I did some research on this, don't think MB does any passenger-side auto-dimming mirrors on any cars. BMW also starting doing this years ago, as did several other manufacturers, so not uncommon I guess.

My 2013 GL had it on both mirrors. Wonder if it’s just a
cost cutting measure or if they want drivers to be more aware of traffic on passenger side?

Yeah—maybe they changed what they name it? Bc the self dimming is electrically controlled. The 2013 DOG above says if reverse gear or interior lighting on, the feature is switched off—indicating that it also is electrically controlled.

i just took delivery of a 2019. Would love input from anyone with an 2018 or 2019 to see if it’s the whole gen or just a 2019 thing...or just my car! If just mine, will have to follow up with dealer to order a replacement part, assuming it can be retrofitted...

I think the most comforting thing is that nobody can really tell =)
Probably because the distance to the passenger mirror makes the issue less noticeable. Also, sometimes at night I can only see the body of the car in my blind spot from that mirror, and if it's a dark car it can be hard to see, so maybe better that it doesn't dim (although I'm sure they did it for cost reasons).

part of me—after the long wait—also just wants the car to be complete with what it’s “supposed” to have...entitlement, I know.
