Advice needed from parents of small children
Hi all,
I have a ‘19 E63 wagon coming with the right color and kit. I’m trying to decide on whether to take the plunge.
See my my current daily is a ‘17 Audi S7. When we bought it, wife tried to warn me about the practicality of the rear seats but of course I didn’t listen. Well now I have an 8 month old who graduated from an infant seat to a safety seat (20-65lbs) and my god is it tight in the back of the Audi. I mean it’s always been tight, getting him in and out of the seat, but this is now a whole different level. The new seat makes the second row in my wife’s GLE feel tight.
Those of you with small children, how are the rear seats in the wagon? Trying to justify the massive bath I’d take in the Audi trade in, I feel like the E wagon needs to be perfect.
Thanks!

I have a 5 month old and a 10 yr old, practicality was unfortunately a big requirement for me when picking as I had to go for a ‘wagon’ and back seats were important too.
It’s not an SUV - X5/GLE/Q7 back seat size area but it’s definetely big enough for the kids in the back.
Ive has no problems so far and the boot size is enormous so highly practical for push chairs etc.

it is tight no doubt. won't be much room for a stroller and much of anything else in the back... unless you put a box on it. I went from an E500 wagon through a GL550 and 2 GL63s.. now my kids are 8 and ten.. just now back to the E63 Wagon... and I still need the box on top! Keep the Audi and wait for the new updated GL550 or GL63 coming down the pike! You will be much happier..... I could take two families of 4 (with3 kiddies in the third row) with gear skiing in the GL... it is a super super great car in 550 or 63 form.

btw... the GLS is much larger in the back than a GLE...(not seats but usable space in the rear)

Wagon has enough room
My children were rear facing, until they were four in my 09 e350 wagon and arguably that was tight. My 18 E63 wagon is much larger than the 09. I’m 6’1” and the kids in booster seats have room behind me.
I would say the leg room is good, but the width is great ( and that really matters when the two boys are trying to clobber each other).

Thanks for the input. I did have a GLS on loan while the GLE was having warranty work and it did seem to be way roomier in the second row. The dealer has an E400 wagon on the lot that I was gonna bring the stroller and car seats to check the space. It should be similar if not identical to the 63 no?

I have three diono radians in a row in my 63S, m550i, and Mdx... no comfort issues except kids can fight each other easily
kids are 7,6,4

I laugh at some of you needing SUVs because of kids. My 2 youngest came home from the hospital in a C63 Black Series and a Lexus RC-F.
Honestly, go throw the seats in the wagon and see if it works. There's always a seat out there that works regardless of vehicle.

Yeah I’m gonna do that! You are a brave soul my friend. It’s never the question of whether it’s doable, you can manage a car seat in the back of a 911 coupe, theoretically. Obviously it’s all first world problems. Maybe I’m just trying to convince myself I “need” this wagon because you know....practicality.

i bought my S212 E63 wagon right after our son was born, and always felt there was ample space, with both the baby and the toddler seats. he's significantly bigger now (3 years old, but legit the size of a 5-year old) and has a lot of room in the back of my new S213.
and for entertainment, here's a video of him in the old one... so you have that to look forward to as well.

I don't have any problem with my 2 yrs sitting in the back, even it is a sedan. I had Clek car seat very easy to install & remove. Only annoying thing is she is kicking the passenger sit & play with seat heating button all the time. LOL

yes!! I have kid kicking issues too; I placed a black towel on the back of the seat hung by the headrest... it works well, zip tied at the bottom

Just got back from the dealer. Sat in an E400 wagon back seat and tried the car seat fitment. It’s still slightly snug although definitely roomier than my S7 as far as the rear facing car seat. I think a few major improvements would be in access to the child in the car seat when you’re outside, as you have a square door opening vs the sloping roofline that makes it a PITA reaching in and like adjusting his belt and stuff. Also, whenever we travel with him one of us sits in the back. This is where the E wagon is leaps and bounds ahead of my Audi. It’s so much more comfortable being a rear seat passenger va being crammed in the back of my Audi with your head touching the ceiling.
The trunk is is nice and square but the S7’s trunk is terrific. The Mercedes looks larger though. It’s definitely feasibly having dogs back there vs in the Audi they manage but they hate it.
Sat in an E63 sedan to check the interior and I think it’s a tad disappointing with all the plastic lower dash and center console and slower door panels but they gotta leave something for the S class I suppose. Did not not go for a test drive as was already planned since it’s 12 degrees and they’re all on summer tires. I’m sure it’s fast enough.
The wagon is is currently in production and I have the option to snag it. Trying to make up my mind :-)

In my wagon, I put the rear facing for my 6 month old daughter behind me in the driver seat, so I have more room. The front facing for my almost 3 year is behind the passenger seat, as he has put his feet on the seat back from time to time. If wife isn't in the car I move that seat forward on rainy days. Get the wagon and enjoy it, it'll have plenty of space for stroller, etc.

Had my ‘wagon’ in to get a couple of bits of my Xpel wrap fixed, pre it going in to dealership in New Year. Had a Audi Q5 out as replacement. Man, what a pain with my 6 month old in the back! Much less space! Wife drove as she loves SUV’s and I had my legs cramped up big time in passenger seat! My E63 has way more space than that bad boy!!

And it’s a friggin beast. Yeah. I’m working on the wife aspect. “Why do you need a new car when you just got a new one 18 months ago?” But if the numbers from the dealership work out I think I’m gonna convince her. Plus isn’t it better asking for forgiveness than permission or however they say it?

Based on reviews and your guys’ feedback and common sense it’s a beast. I didn’t get to drive the sedan today because of the weather.
