Assuming that you are in the US, the EPA must certify the ECU changes with the manufacturer. My Service Manager told me that this software update was only available for vehicles that had exhibited the cylinder 1,6 CEL issue and was not being applied as a matter of course to all E63S variants. I don't know if this might be because MBUSA needs to update the emission certification of every car to which the software update is applied, but this is just a guess on my part. There is also a corresponding update to the TCU which is only available with this particular ECU update.

So all those lemons are now lemonade? Wonder if they are not a buy opportunity?

After using 2 tanks of gas, it is apparent that the MPG increase is not transitory. My average is now 19.8 and the highway mpg has been running between 23.0 and 24.1! I never experienced anything in that range before the update.

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
Ya, when I had my 2018 AMG wagon something seemed weird with the fuel mileage, my 2012 got better gas mileage and it was a larger displacement motor without the cylinder shut down.

at what average speed?

at 140kmh I can get 10.8l/100km, about 21.8 MPG. if i could drive the car at 120kmh i suspect that, unbelievable, the official announced MPG could be done.

test done on 250Km of highway (155 miles), with very low traffic and small inclines and declines (one compensates the other), in comfort mode, auto, smooth drive and no cruise control.

E63S MY19 sedan, build date 12/18

The 19.8 is an average 65% highway at 70mph, 35% suburban roads at 45mph.

The 23-24 mpg are at 70 mph. No roads here to go 85mph legally.

My point was that the update changed the consumption to something that is reasonable. Prior to the application, the around town mpg used to be about 17+. Now it's regularly 19+. My E550 used to get about 19-20 under similar circumstances with a much larger displacement engine and no 4-cyl mode.

Mine is in the shop right now since Saturday 4/27/19 had CEL come up at 5053 miles for the first time. I drove normal as I always do stopped for a sub it sat for 10-15 min when I started up CEL popped up and stayed on for a week then it went in.

They're also working on resolving taps and noises interior for the 2nd or 3rd time while it's there. Looking forward to improved MPG as my commute is 50 miles a day 90% highway 10% city

Shop just told me CEL was from evaporator leaking which they corrected. Furthermore have told me they will NOT do the software update because it wasn't necessary.

I'm waiting for supervisor to call me back is it possible they just won't do it unless cylinder misfires?

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
The Advisor told me at the dealer I use that they normally don't like to make changes when there is no issue present, murphys law I guess, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
