I’ve been very fortunate to have been driving in Europe since 1997 and I’ve got about 20,000 miles of seat time on European roads. My brother and I took annual summer trips across Germany in cars which we shipped to Amsterdam and then drove to our home in France via Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. In fact we shipped a car to Europe (usually a 996 or 997 Porsche 911 turbo, and sometimes another car to join) every year from 1998 until 2010. I haven’t done the Germany thing in a few years now, and I thought European delivery of an E53 would be a great idea. However, I certainly wouldn’t want to be limited to 130mph given my experience. I like the E53’s technology and all that it offers for a reasonable daily driver that doesn’t drink gasoline.

I haven’t received a speeding ticket since 2003 anywhere as a result of being careful and some good luck. If you don’t believe it, well then I don’t know what to tell you. Anyway, I’m pretty careful in Europe, as these days are not quite like the old days. But thanks for your caution, and I’m not being sarcastic. The cameras in Europe have become killer.

My mindset is to go as fast as possible in Germany when there’s no speed limit. Because it’s fun. Beyond that, I’m quite careful and well seasoned with European culture and especially their driving culture, which is very different from ours.

I assure you my sense and experience are quite uncommon, but I never lost the sense of maintaining common sense throughout my experience.
Talk about the exception , you ship cars back and forth the across the Atlantic for vacation every year like people ship cars to Fl, why do I feel like you also sell swap land in NJ?

Your posts #153 and #154 have nothing to do with the topic of the thread, and they are purely negative.

Nice job.

Perhaps you’ll delete them or a perhaps a moderator will.

You’re not welcome on this thread. Please leave. Your contributions are worthless and a waste of bandwidth. You have shown up simply to proliferate negativity and jealousy. This is not a place where people are proving to each other what they can afford and whether the “stories” they are telling are true. This is a forum for enthusiasts who share experience with each other in good faith. You obviously have an axe to grind. Go do it elsewhere.

Come on! Your going to call out post 153 and 154 of V70cat and yet post #1 that you wrote sounds far fetched to begin with. I am shocked no one has called you out before this point.

My problem with this whole thread begins at post #1. Your post 1 just sounds “wacky”.

You should expect most people to think you are full of BS since your posts seemed to be unbelievable. I am just trying to avoid calling you out on this thread since most people can figure this out for themselves but there becomes a point where someone just decided to point this out like V70cat just did.

And there I was earlier today thinking you finally showed yourself to be a decent guy. You said something nice and I thanked you for it.

What’s going on?

Okay so just explain it. I’m a liar? I haven’t been to Europe? I don’t own a house in France? I haven’t done the things I say I’ve done, which I never bragged about but instead indicated I was fortunate to have done? I haven’t owned the cars I’ve said I’ve owned? The pictures of my blue 2019 C63S coupe in another thread on this forum aren’t real? The pictures of my former F-car collection on another forum weren’t real? I didn’t take a picture with a stupid spoon because somebody requested it means I don’t have a blue 2017 AMG SL63? A car which happens to be in New York at my home while I’m currently in my Florida home?

Just explain what the problem is bud. What’s the problem. You’re looking for me to prove something to you?

My desire indicated in post #1 to take European delivery of an E53 is far-fetched?

I never said I was wealthy. And whether I am or not shouldn’t make a difference to you or anybody else. Unless of course you are a Marxist, which would make you very interested in whether somebody else has too much. I don’t want an E63S, but thanks for the recommendation.

Well nobody cares if you’ve heard of it. If you enjoy the idea, perhaps you should try it. Car leaves port of Baltimore and arrives in Amsterdam. Doesn’t cost a whole lot. You buy European insurance for 6 months and use your US plate. Just because you are ignorant doesn’t mean everybody else isn’t busy enterprising.

2018 E63S AMG
The European delivery was a lot fun. Had a great vacation with the family and even hit five countries in one day: France, Switzerland, Germany, Liechtenstein, and Austria.

Took the majority of the two weeks to run up the 1500 km to complete the breaking in period. Did get one speeding ticket on the way back from visiting the castle in Meersburg - 32 km/h in a 30 km/h zone. Ticket was 18 Euros.

We did hit 170 mph on the autobahn between Munich and Stuttgart on the last night while heading back to drop the car off in Stuttgart for our trip home.

Kind of sucked to trundle along at 140 km/h (85 mph) during the break-in and be passed by all the moms in their minivans. Pretty easy to exceed 130 mph on the unrestricted portions of the autobahn when traffic is clear - which was often not the case. I agree it would feel a bit lousy to be passed by bunch of soccer moms in the limited E53, especially being an AMG and all.

I must say it was pretty satisfying to be able to hang with or pass all the other sport sedans we encountered. Would also like to note that the German drivers are really good about moving over when they can. I really wish they would enforce good lane use etiquette here in the states over speeding. I'm sure that is the cause of a lot of road rage.

Thanks for sharing!

One time I was going 150mph around a long sweeping turn in the left lane in my 2003 SL55- not a slow car- and a guy in a previous-gen SL600 (boxy one) was like 6 inches off my rear bumper flashing his lights wanting me to move over. It was unbelievable! I wasn’t about to start shifting vehicle weight at 150mph by switching lanes, and man was this guy impatient!

When I finally moved over, the guy absolutely disappeared. There are some fast fast drivers out there. But yes the courtesy there is to simply move over without any middle fingers or driver resentment. For anyone who enjoys driving and can benefit from a little bit of guidance from an experienced autobahn driver, the unrestricted German roads will provide experiences that last a lifetime.

Speeding ticket for 2km over!!! That’s 1.24 mph. Unbelievable! At least the 18 euros wasn’t crazy. In nyc it’d be a $200 ticket or something.

You think this is unbelievable? This is not unbelieavable in Europe! You said in post 135 that you had 20,000 miles of seat time in Europe without a ticket. That is unbelievable since those of us that have driven in Europe know the realities especially if one thinks like you write.

All of your posts put together just don’t seem believable. Maybe they are but sure does not seem like it to those that have many experiences with MB cars and European driving.

I said I never received a speeding ticket in Europe. And I meant it.
