Race mode on the street

Anyone put their car on race mode when driving on local streets or highway? Is there a downside to using race mode on the highway?

I do occasionally. There is a turn on my way to work that is slightly off camber and in the other modes the ESP will come on and keep the car from doing anything interesting. In race mode the ESP is less overbearing and will allow the car to get more tail happy. Trying to do my part to put some wear on the rear tires so they won't be so far behind the fronts - which will wear first due to the aggressive camber setting.

Also use race mode when heading up Palomar Mountain.

I've tried it a few times but for me, even Sport + gets old on the highway. I'm constantly using the shifter paddles to get it to stop holding 4th or 5th gear on the highway.

Hi, how the race mode react, it is the rpm will go 6000+ for the gear shifter.

Depends.

If you're just driving normally, the car will shift at a reasonable RPM. It holds gears a bit longer than Sport+ as I recall, but doesn't do anything crazy. If you put your foot in it, it will use the full RPM range before shifting on its own.

That said, I'm normally using the paddles and shifting manually manually when in race mode. It will even show when a recommended upshift is proposed on the HUD.

When you don't have your foot in it, it recognizes that there's little load on the engine and you're just loafing along at very modest RPMs and says go ahead and upshift at 2,000 rpm or whatever.

You should always drive it like you stole it. No excuses.

I'm normally driving in "sport" mode because I hate start/stop system but if there is no traffic on a freeway trying to use comfy mode.

The "Sport+" is good but the car is too nervous and transmission is keeping gears too long.

In Race there is virtually no turbo lag. I am mostly in Sport+ just for the fun of it and, why not? If I really want to get into it, I am in Race mode on the windy roads.
